What's your cure for dry skin?

Sometimes during the winter, I get really dry, flaky skin on my knuckles and elbows. I've tried baby oil on those spots, but the dry spots come back after just a few hours. However, I found that a dab of ELF (Eyes Lips Face) lip gloss on the dry patch makes it go away. Not sure why. I think the lip gloss contains some type of botanicals or soothing oils. You could probably use regular lip gloss. Do you have a home made solution for dry skin? If so, please feel free to share it.

I have found the best thing for me is cocoa butter lotion. I found a cheap tub of cocoa butter cream and keep it in the bathroom so I can use it after a shower or bath.

What works for me is ... after a bath, even before toweling off, I slather body oil all over my still damp skin, and then dab on the towel to remove excess moisture.

I have got some dry spots, and it is very soring so far I do I have try baby oil also and it works at me but I agree wtih you about it is just temporal, but if I put more baby oil, it gets really better, I have not tried Eyes lips face yet, but I would like to give it a try, my mon likes to try with cornmeal but I don't think it really works, because for me it make the dry spots even more dry.

I think you have to attack dry skin inside and out. As one poster mentioned, drink lots of water. We usually don't feel as thirsty when the weather is cool, but our bodies need water then, too. Also, our "fat free" diets are to blame for some skin dryness. Fat is not altogether horrible to eat and we get many calories from other foods that could be minimized. Another thing is dry air. In the winter, when we heat our homes, the heat takes the humidity from the air and that sucks it from our skins. Fourth... what you asked for. Olive oil is the best because it's closest to our natural skin oils. Even used liberally, it's inexpensive. You don't need the best grade for it and a teaspoon of olive oil will go a long way. Give it time to penetrate, then gently wipe off the excess. Do this several times a day at first, and you'll begin to notice a definite change.

I don't have a home made solution. I use vaseline intensive care aloe vera on my skin and that works fine for me and my family.

Cocoa Butter - This is a picture of Ultra Glow cocoa butter. You can ususally find it in the same section with the specialty African-hair-prodcuts, or with the moistureizer at the drug store. This is the best thing in the world for dry skin and it smells great too!
In my experience the best product available for really dry skin is pure cocoa butter. You can but it from a few brands. Plamer's and Ultra Glow are the brands that I have used. Ultra Glow is the best deal of the two. Wat you want to look for is that the product actaully kind of resembles butter in texture and density. Cocoa butter CREAM is okay but not nearly as good as the pure cocoa butter. An added bonus is that it smells great. I often use it as a full body moistureixer in the winter because I find I get itchy if my skin gets dry at all.

Your blood oxygen is very low that caused your dry skin and itchiness sometimes. Drink Gano Excellium (red mushroom) one capsule 30 minutes before breakfast. If you're interested I will give you my distributor number so that you can avail for discounts.

Hi, I am using olive oil which is really working great on dry skin. Just apply the oil 30min before the bath....and also use a good moisturizing body wash which is soap free rather than a soap....hope its helpful to u....

My solution is not homemade, I have a paraffin spa. It really helps with the dry skin on my hands. I believe I would also be able to treat my elbows with it. The paraffin I have with it has tea tree oil and lavender in it. You could probably try a paraffin treatment at a spa to see if you like it, but the appliance itself can be purchased for about the price of two treatments, and you always know who else has used it. Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream is another choice for relief. It is a very concentrated cream and softens and protects extremely well. It is almost as thick as lip gloss. I like to use lip gloss around my cuticles, especially if I am gardening a lot or if it is winter. Of course you want to use moisturizing soaps when washing or bathing, to help prevent some of the dryness.

I also use AVEENO for any dry skin or rashes. I put AVEENO lotion on my daughter's exzema that she had for years. It went away and never came back. So it's the first thing I always use for any rashes or dry skin.

Wow, this is good to know, I would have never thought of lip gloss for anything other than putting on my lips. LOL. Baby oil, does not work because it doesn't penetrate the skin, it just sits on top of the skin. A beautician told me that little fact. I see some people, who have commented on your discussion are using AVEENO, I will have to try that on my excema, to see if it works. Thanks for the tip.

Hi beautyqueenMy cure for dry skin is to buy "AVEENO"dry skin bath powder with oatmeal in it and soak in this once a day for a couple of days. Also putting some baby oil in the bath water when taking a bath.If i have dry skin on my hands i apply a very creamy moisturizer (ALOT)to my hands and put on some cotton mitts and wear them for a while,it holds the cream creating a soothing layer like a mask and slowly dissolving. It makes the skin very subtle, smooth and not dry anymore.
