I'm getting old

Before Tuesday of this week, I equated bifocal glasses with the elderly. I no longer do so. Mostly because I don't feel that I'm elderly....and I now need bifocals. I'm struggling with the fact that in less than 3 weeks, I will hit the 41 year mark, and my body seems to be falling apart! lol Well...my eyes anyway. Bifocal wearers...any advice for getting used to them? I did get progressive lenses (no line) but understand that there are still issues with height and depth perception, walking up stairs, etc....

Goodness, that's the youngest I've ever heard of someone having to wear bifocals. Glad you eye sight has improved.

Lol yeah I know. They didn't really improve they just got to where I was needing glasses or contact for distances instead of close up.

Maybe I don't feel quite so bad now. You guys are so good for my self esteem! When I went to pick them up this afternoon, and walked back into school, all of the seniors were sitting in the coffee shop. They all went Wow! They look so good!

I had to get bifocals about the same age. I have had them for about 6 years now. Progressive is a lot easier to get use to from what I understand. That is the only time that I have worn. Wish I could give you some tips. But it has been awhile since I had to adjust, not remembering right off hand how I did it. But I did it!

The first couple of weeks, the biggest troubles I had was walking outside and going up and down stairs and trying to step up and down from the curbs! Things are getting better!

I did not have any trouble adjusting to my no line bifocals, but I have known others who did. I think the secret depends on the technician that orders your lenses. They have to get the change and gradation in the right place for your range of vision. I remember when my Mom got her bifocals, that was when they always had lines and she did have a lot fo trouble. Good luck with them, but you are not old, you are vintage.

I have adjusted to them in everything except trying to work at the computer. I'm still having trouble focusing on something on the screen and then looking up to talk to people. Other than that, it seems to be fine.

My husband is near sighted and he now has to wear tri-focals and he is in his sixties. You do have a lot to get used to. He takes them off when he is reading something close. But you have an advantage. YOU CAN READ THE FINE PRINT! I have to put on my reading glasses. I think you have to maybe take off the glasses, and them put them on to get a sense of how things are changing. So if you find anything different, then you will know, but I only use reading glasses, so I do not know much about near-sightedness.

Well, I have them. Aww...it was funny I know watching me try to step off the curb. At least my husband seemed to think it was, before he finally helped me. Everything looks like it's going uphill. I have noticed that if I'm glancing at something sideways, that there is a bit of a blur. That's normal for bifocals I'm told.

Well, my friend said that she had less of a problem with the "extra step" with the progressive lenses. I'm still holding off, using reading glasses for close work & distance for driving & nothing if I can get away with it! But my eyes were never that bad and just until this last year have I needed reading glasses for close work.

I was comparing them with the first grade teacher's who is in trifocals. She was giving me some pointers about things such as steps, computer work, and driving. I think it is just going to take getting used to wearing them. Also from wearing glasses instead of contacts.
