Can you really make low fat tacos?

Since going on a diet, all I can think about are tacos. So, today I broke down and made them for dinner. If I hadn't been on a diet, I would have added tons of shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and salsa to my tacos.
But instead, opted for the lower fat version with reduced fat beef, lettuce and diced tomatoes. It wasn't as tasty as the high fat version, but I'm sure my hips will thank me tomorrow.
So, what's your favorite low fat or regular taco topping? Do you ever experiment with taco toppings like chopped mushrooms? Please share.

I've used ground chicken or turkey instead of beef to make tacos. Then used low fat cheese and low fat or fat free sour cream (you could probably use yogurt as well). The other toppings I usually use aren't that fattening: lettuce, tomato, salsa... if I use black olives or guacamole, well then it's a little more fattening. But I think that just using lower fat meat and cheese makes a big difference.

You should have gone with the salsa. It is full of nutrients and is non fat. Some people believe that the spices in it help your burn more calories. I have used fat free sour cream, and it is okay, especially with salsa. I have tried reduced fat cheese, and you can keep it. I use lean turkey meat or very lean beef, and I season it up really well. It is the flavoring that makes the dish for me. I will buy fat free refries, and I love them. Beans are a good calorie investment, full of protein and fiber to make you feel full. Go with what will give you the most flavor and the feeling of fatness. I will do a small amount of guacamole as well because it is full fo healthy fat.

You can also use chicken instead of beef in the tacos. I think salsa is probably okay, even if you are dieting, since it is fat free and is mostly vegitables anyway. You can also mix in corn to the filling, that tastes pretty good with the other traditional taco fillings. Just stay away from the guacamolie!
Good Luck.
