Thinking like Charle Darwin, i will say it is egg that comes first but religiously it the hen and not the egg that comes first.
God created the hen the lays the egg.

The egg came before the chicken. Dinosaurs were hatching out of eggs long before there were chickens.

Dinosaurs were laying the eggs that dinosaurs were hatching out of. Before Dinosaurs were hatching, more primitive reptiles were doing the egg thing. Before them, we had amphibians. Then there were the fish. Before there were fish laying eggs, there were corel and mussels.

O yes this is a really a funny and confusing question. But we think the egg was first. But how the egg came first. Answer relates to science. Many living things came to their existence with chemical reactions and hence the egg could be formed by some chemical reaction and chick can take birth in a specific temperature. Today eggs are becoming chicks in poultry forms. They do not need their mother hen to sit on the egg. Incubator is playing the role of mother of the chick to make them hen afterward. So it proves that the egg came first then the hen.
