How healthy are you?

Do you miss very much work due to health concerns, or are you more like me, gotta be on your death bed before you call the doctor? Have you always been healthy? I almost called the doctor today, but I do not have a fever, and I am not plugged up. I believe that I am better off with fewer antibiotics, but I keep getting this sinus pain and headache. I guess I will continue to tough it out.

Whoa..tell me more about your sinus pain and headache! What makes it better or worse? How long have you had it? What are you taking and is it helping.
Many years ago, I started in the fall with sensitive teeth, then I added sinus pain and headaches. At first the pain was not bad, but it kept getting worse. Finally, in May, I had pain so bad..I could not do things like eat, drink, brush my teeth, open the refrigerator door.
Up to that point, I had not missed any work.
Turned out I had problem in the brain, 2 years of different medications and no relief, but lots of really bad side effects from them. I gained about 60 pounds from the meds. Ended up having surgery, lost my hearing on the affected side and 6 months later..same problem.
Please tell me your symptoms

First, I will say that your post will probably be the deciding factor of me finally calling the doctor just for a checkup. I get ear pain when the weather changes, but the headache for awhile was really funny, like just the skin on my skull hurt, but only on one side. I kept telling my husband that if my head was a cantaloupe the rind would have a headache. Nothing really bad. I had some facial pain the other day, around my eye. Saline spray helps when used consistently, and benadryl, and extra sleep, and mucinex ( guaifensen). Hot packs and hot showers are beneficial. What kind of problem in your brain? Tumor, or some kind of vascular problem? I am sorry that you have had this serious problem.

Got in on Friday to see the doctor. Left work an hour early and was able to have an actual appointment. He is saying it is a sinus infection, and gave me a Zpack (5 day antibiotic cycle) and a prescription for an antihistamine/decongestant. It made me much better by Saturday morning. More energy. That was what was bothering me, I just could not seem to even move. Where would you put the capsaicin cream for this? What is OC spray. I use the capsaicin cream for arthritis symptoms, by recommendation of my doctor, since I refused Vioxx (smart me) and Cortisone shots (again, smart me). I find it useful, but if I take my vitamins he suggests, I do not need it often.

What I have it trigeminal neuralgia - an artery dropped down on top of the trigeminal nerve and the insulation around the nerve broken down ( like it does in MS). I had surgery - they wrapped the nerve in teflon and both a sponge between the nerve and the artery.
The pain was excrutiating - like lighning hitting my face.
Have you tried capsaicin cream - this will desensitize you to pain. DO NOT get it in your eyes. This is not a joke - it is the same thing used in OC spray, It did help with the pain somewhat

A multivitamin supplement could help that out. Seems like there is a deficiency in Vitamin B6 and/or Iron. Can't think of anything else with that. Be careful upping Iron intake and taking vitamins in general to avoid excessive consumption (Iron is toxic if too much is consumed). You should be fine though Mich.

Please make sure to get yourself on some good vitamins or supplements if you are not going to eat right. You will pay for it down the road, trust me I know. Don't allow bad things to happen to your body from your system being run down. You look much to young to let anything bad start growing in you.

If you cook acidic foods in an iron skillet or pan you increase your iron intake in a useable manner. You need to find out why your hemoglobin is so low. It will cause a lot of fatigue.

For the most part, I think I'm pretty healthy. A bit overweight, but working on that one. I haven't really been sick in over a year - which is awesome because I used to get at least 2 sinus infections a year, plus one or 2 colds. I think it's mostly because I've switched my vitamins - I have also noticed a difference in the health of my hair (strange, but true...).
I also wouldn't go to the doctor or call in sick unless I was REALLY sick. I would try to tough it out first.

I am generally very healthy. This runs in our family. My grandmother & Aunty are/were exceptionally healthy & had very strong immune systems.
On the odd occasion that I do get sick, or injured, I refuse to go to the Doctor unless absolutely necessary. I have a high tolerance of pain, so when I tear ligaments in my ankle, I don't bother seeking treatment.
Two years ago when I broke my foot & tore an ankle ligament at a supermarket, I drove myself home. Two days later I drove myself to hospital!

I'm normally as healthy as a horse. I once got a job because I assured the boss that I was rarely if ever ill.
About a month later I was in the worst state of ill health I've ever been in. My head ached, it hurt to open my eyes and I wanted to crawl into a dark hole and die. I had to find a doctor to go to and I had to get my partner to take me as I couldn't drive. I felt very ill and I kept tucking my head into his shoulder in the waiting room hoping to loose consciousness.
It turns out I had a severe sinus infection. The doctor said if it didn't clear up with the anti-biotics then I would have to have surgery to scrape the sinuses.
I've since heard that this is an extremely painful uncomfortable procedure with more of a failure rate than a success rate.
The point I'm trying to make is ...be careful. Get this complaint seen to asap. It needs to be fixed sooner rather than later.
Yes, I lost my job because I had to have time off.

I have a friend who has had it three times. Her best finding is to use a nasal irrigation system or neti pot to keep clear. I hope I can just stick with my saline spray. I did see the doc. I am doing much better now.

My daughter and my mom both had that surgery. They had no other choice and for my mom she is going to have to have it again hers is so bad. My son needs it, but can't afford to miss work. It is not a nice surgery at all, I've had 6 big cancer surgeries where they cut you from one end to the other, and I'm telling you, I would take that big surgery anyday over this sinus surgery. It's painful, it's nasty (the after effects), but it works for most people. My daughter swears that it has made a difference in her, but my poor mom bless her heart, she just doesn't do surgery well and they couldn't find one of the sponge's when she went for her after appt. with him, he swears it is not Lost in there, but I am wondering. Dont' want to scare you off, but I don't blame you for not wanting to do it unless you just have too.

I was watching a CNN report on the SuperBug and they said those who take antibiotics all the time will be more susceptible to it because people build up a resistance to those antibiotics. As sick as I am, it makes me grateful I've never had to rely on a lot of antibiotics. I was quite a healthy child and hardly ever went to the doctor. It wasn't until I was 19 my mom finally begged me to go get checked out after feeling so poorly for so long. And that is when everything started going either downhill or uphill, whichever way one chooses to look at it. LOL Even though I'm on disability now, I hate to go to the doctor and try to avoid it if possible.

I had one year where I took lots of antibiotics due to both sinus infections and dental infections. If you have a dental infection it is important to treat it with antibiotics before disturbing it in anyway, because otherwise, the infection can get in your bloodstream, and sometimes in your heart. There are still antibiotics MRSA responds to, but it is best not to take antibiotics un needfully.

I was like you I would go to work and not take time of
That is why I was so angry that being with the Company 8 years and even finding out about my Illness and still going to work when I was bad that I got bullied out of my Job because of my Illness
Now I would not be any use to anyone anyway as this Illness makes me really sick but knowing me I would still go to work

That would be very maddening. When my first husband was diagnosed with motorneuron disease (ALS) I was afraid his company would do that, but they were just the opposite. They were so good to him.

Ummm. Okay it's revelation time now. I guess you could say I am just like my father. I go to the Dr when I HAVE to not when I should. I
have bronchial asthma and should have a check up yearly but I don't
as I hate Drs etc. I get ill and wait till I either can't breathe
or eat etc to get to the Dr or ER. Just me I reckon.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

For years I ignored my own health needs, I tolerated pain like you wouldn't believe, I even had bad UTI infections and would try to treat it at home with whatever leftover meds I could get just to keep from having to spend money i needed for my kids. Well, all that got me was several years later, when I had just turned 41 was a cancer diagnosis. Now, I tell everyone, don't suffer with pain. Too many things on the market to keep you pain free. You may not need antibiotics my friend, but a good sinus med or a decongestant would make your life much more enjoyable. Nothing like a sinus headache to ruin your day. Take care of YOU : )

Problem was that the sinus meds and decongestants I could buy over the counter put me to sleep, but did not fix the pain. I added Mucinex, and NSAIDS, to no avail. I did finally call the doctor. It is harder, when you are working two people intensive jobs to find a time you can spare to see the doctor. At my second job everyone else was sick, or sicker. He says come back again sometime for a physical, when I can find the time, he would really prefer I see him at least every six months, but it has been about two years. He knows that other than my weight, I am pretty proactive about my health and in overall good shape.

It was planning, I think. The only time hubby took days off in a row was between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was this only illness in almost 40 years and he took 6 days off worked 2 weeks and then had a month to recuperate during the semester break. We were really lucky that time. Glad to know you are feeling better.

I've never missed any work for health concerns, actually, although because we had the time coming, I did play hooky a few times. Probably over about 40 years Does that count? I missed 1 day from grade school, though, due to chicken pox. All the other childhood illnesses happened during summer break except for measles which I got during Xmas break.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

You had incredible luck or planning to only get sick when on break. My daughter got pneumonia right before Christmas break, and so had a lot of rest and recovery time.

Well,I don't exactly how healthy I am. But I have three meals a day regularly usually. Whenever I don't feel very well,I pay much attention to my diet.I drink more water and eat more vegetables and fruits. Sometimes I also do sports, but not much.I think it's very important to stay healthy and it's better to have a regular life.

I also dont believe in having alot of antibiotics I think it messes with you immune system to much. I dont call in to work very often unless it is so serious that i cant work. I am usually pretty healthy as far as cold and flu. Tough it out it will get better.
