Barney, Dora, Care Bears, or Strawberry Shortcake?

Which one does your kids prefer - Barney, Dora the Explorer, Care Bears, or Strawberry Shortcake? They say that parents should really be cautious of what their child are watching in the TV since it affects and shapes their thoughts and actions. My little girl watch all of these four cartoon shows. She first fell inlove with Barney when she was just one year old. She love the songs and dances of Barney. She then shifted to Dora and the Care Bears. My only apprehension about Care Bears is that Beastly always have a dialogue that says "I'm bad!". Although the care bears always win over the bad elements at the end of the story, I have this fear that the said statement will stuck in my kid's mind. Now, she is into strawberry shortcake which promotes friendship and interpersonal relationship. However, she is beginning to develop her sweet tooth, always asking for something sweet to eat. That's what she gets for watching a show full of mouthwatering characters in it - from cakes to dumplings to gingersnaps!

My daughter is almost 19 months old and I haven't really noticed a particular television show that catches her interest. She would rather listen to music and dance - if a song starts playing on the tv, that will catch her attention. Her room has a lot of Strawberry Shortcake decorations up but she hasn't really been introduced to the characters. My youngest daughter is 2.5 months old and she also enjoys music. Of course, the bright colors of the tv amuses her but she would much rather listen to her sister than the tv anyday.. I know my days are coming as my children get older but I am enjoying their sweet innocent days of entertaining theirselves without getting into too much trouble. :-)

Your kids are adorable, they enjoy each other's company rather than watching TV. It's really better to have the children stay away from TV because sometimes media has bad influence to the kids' mind and behaviour. Have a good day.

My daughter is 10 and likes all of these characters. Her room is in Care Bears and I think that is going to change soon, but as long as she will keep them I will let her. She also loves Doodlebops and The Wiggles! I know that she has learned a lot of Spanish from Dora and I like that about a show. As a home school family, I like to see her learning from anything that she is watching on tv.

My daughter loves the Doodle Bops! She cant get enough of this show. I love it too, its fun and encourages her to get up and dance. I would not worry about the Carebears, after all..this was popular when I was a child, and I'm not fixiated on being bad..When she asks for something sweet during her Strawberry Shortcake show..offer carrots or celery and peanut butter. Better compromise for a sweet tooth with small children.

My 2 year old daughter loves Dora the Explorer. I don't let my daughter watch too much t.v. because of the studies that was done. It affects the child brain development. I allow my daughter to watch tv an hour a day, and sometimes she doesn't even watch tv an hour. But I only let her watch the educational shows, something that can help her.

My 5 year old daughter really isn't into any of these. She has now moved on to Diego and Go Gabba Gabba. I do remember when she loved Barney, though. I miss those days!

My son likes Barney, but he doesn't really watch it all that often. It's on too early for him. He's usually still asleep. He likes Dora sometimes, and he also watches Care Bears sometimes, too. His very favorite shows are Sesame Street, Between the Lions, and Little Einsteins, though.

My daughter only watches Dora the Explorer and not the others. I'm in agreement with you on this one. Kids pick up subtle messages from TV, like it's OK to eat junk food or I'm bad. Those are not good messages. But they are in context of a tv show. A child might not understand the difference between reality and fantasy. It's up to the mom to choose which program her child watches. Use your best judgement and follow your heart. That's the best you can do! Be well. Blessings to all.

Call me crazy, but I don't allow Barney in my house. My younger siblings drove me crazy with this show to the point that I cringe when I think about it being on. My three month old is somewhat entertained by Dora, Word World and Caillou. But the shows that keep her attention have dogs or babies in them. She loves the Dog Whisperer and Jon and Kate plus 8.
