I finally went to the doctor, while I was there, we talked a little about MRSA.

He is not overly concerned about it, in our area. He says that it still is susceptible to many of the antibiotics we use and not to be concerned about it becoming a problem for me, as I am having to take antibiotics for an infection right now. Just wash my hands, cover any exposed cuts or scrapes, and use common sense in public places.

We all have to be extra careful. Everyone needs to be better about washing their hands. I see people all the time going into a public restroom and then not washing their hands. Whatever they touch, then they contaminate. I am surprised everytime I see that. I always wash my hands even at home. When are people going to learn to wash their hands to help stop the spread of germs. We are always hearing on the news about food recalls and e coli. Sometimes people die, all because someone picking onions didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom.

You have got it: EVERYONE, go wash your hands. My mom always teased me about how much I washed, even as a kid. I am glad to be a handwasher.

That was good to read about it still being susceptible to some of the antibiotics available. My youngest daughter is an EMT and has transported quite a few that have MRSA. I'm so glad they wear gloves, etc, and take precautions! It's good you had the discussion with the Dr so that you can be aware and take care of yourself, especially in the type of business you're working with!

A few of the patients that I see have MRSA. We have to wear gowns when coming in direct contact with the client or if there is a chance of coming in contact with body fluids. We have been instructed to wash our hands and also use antibacterial gel. Also we need to wear our gloves and in some cases booties to cover our shoes. This freaks some people out. But we let them know that it is important for us to take precautionary measures to insure that this does not spread.

When my mom had some veins taken from her leg for a heart surgery, she received care from a visiting nurse. Evidently she was beginning to go gangrenous, and the nurse would not even allow us in the house while she was treating it, and had it exposed. That is more worrisome to me than MRSA. What they do not talk about, and is not making headlines, is that there are worse infections than MRSA that can be caught in the same way. Of course you have to take precautions. Sounds like you work for a really first class agency that is on its toes.

MRSA does not worry me particularly. I have seen it, been around it, transported residents with serious systemic cases of it, and I was fine. I know it has freaked out some of my co workers, hearing that it occurs in schools. I believe they have been cutting corners on cleaning and sanitation if they are getting it in schools and gyms.
