Well the social service worker from the home dad is at called Friday evening with some decent news. On Monday a social worker will be here for an evaluation on dad and what care, equiptment, and assistance he will be needing. I want to see if he can get a hospital bed free first and foremost. I broght up the elctric lift recliner so he won't have a real hard time getting in and out of the chair in the living room. I would also be asking about a rolling tray for eating from and doing his reading and puzzles. A lot of things I will ask about. We are going to get at least one hour a week bathing assistance paid by his insurance at least. And other services will also be available free for awhile. I have to be sure to ask about a discount after the free time as his Blue Cross will pay part and also offers a discount for him. So things look good to a point as far as mysdwlf getting a break somewhat in his care right after he gets home. I need a rest as my back has been very painful as of late. Thanks all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

that is great news! We have hospice for my mom and they are wonderful. We did get her a hospital bed as rolling tray. Her insurance paid for all. She also has a comode and a shower seat. They deliver all meds right to her door...provide oxygen etc. A nurse comes in once a week and checks her vitals. A social worker drops by from time to time to check in and chat with her. They offer councelling for family members if we want. Also a chaplain comes by and offers spiritual councelling. We also have a volunteer who comes by for a couple hours in the early morning so there is no lapse in time for when my mom will be alone and so my brother won't miss any work. Good look...hope you find them as helpful in your area as they have been for us!

That's great for you as well as for your mom. dad has the comode, an electric lift chair, the shower seat, and a few other things. But a bed would be great as thats' where he has the hardest time is getting down to sleep and getting up from the bed. I have no idea right now what's going to be offered other than someone once a week for an hour for bathing purposes. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I hope that being home again will make him more motivated, but it is good that you have help. It would be great if you could always keep him at home. I have worked in nursing homes, and for some they are necessary, but even with the "new" approaches they are choosing, a nursing home is not a home. That insurance ought to be good for something.

He doesn't "need" the nurdsing home right now. he is semi mobile. Just very limited and he does need to be watched as he walks anywhere around the house. he is doing great so far with the walking etc at this time so it's great for me so far as well. Hahahaha!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You have done all the right things in preparing the way for your Dad to come home & getting about & be able to do things. A lot of assistance is available nowadays. Sometimes though, there is a waiting list for this assistance. I discussed this issue with my sister-n-law yesterday regarding my hubbys mother. She is getting worse, can barely move around, needs help with showering, has LOTS of medical problems. Her system is failing. We are going to try to keep her at home for as long as possible.

Thanks but my back will never feel better without an operation or four. Grrr! I passed the surgery up as I'd have to have it again in the very near future. Dr stated that it was a wise choice as the pain is bearable at this time. So for now I deal with the pain etc. Thanks HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'd forgotten to mention a shower seat, which is also covered by insurance and Medicare. A home health worker comes to take blood tests for my mom once a week to and it doesn't cost her a penny. If your dad needs routine tests like that and it's a hardship to get him there and it can be done at home, be sure to ask about that. Annie

He hassn't used the shower/bath since being here the past 3 years. I have always given him a sponge bath. Ugghh! He has a seat for the bath but never wants to attempt trying to get into the tub. I can't blame him either. HAHAHAHA!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
