Buying a PlayStation 2

My husband thinks that if we buy our son a Playstation 2 for Christmas we won't be able to find any games next year. He's afraid that PlayStation will stop making them, like xbox games when the 360 came out. Does anyone know anything about this?

I'd better invest in some joystics for computer, cheaper and you can always buy games for it

The great thing about video games is that they can be bought and sold at used games stores. We bought a Playstation 2 a couple of years ago and have no trouble buying games for it yet, we even still buy Playstation 1 games because they work on the Playstation 2. You can find games anywhere, we've even found new games at flea markets for way less than retail price. I say buy him the Playstation 2, there's always going to be some new game system out there and unless you're made of money you'll never be able to keep up with the latest fad. In fact, my husband bought a Nintendo game a couple of months ago, and think how old those are!

I have brought my son a PS2 for christmas. We have the origional Play Station at the moment and those games will work on the new console as well. In the shops here there are still many PS2 Games and what about Ebay There are many more there... I wouldn't worry to much....

We bought our son his playstation two this year only because it was way cheaper than buying the new version and I tell ya, there are tons of PS games available and lots of users are trading them in for new games so there is always a constant flow of games to choose from. I wouldn't worry too much about them going out of stock, I'm sure lots of other places like amazon.com and ebay will have games you can purchase.

PS 2 is not different from PS 2. Sooner it will no more game. Unlike PC is always the best of all. I got my pc play PS 1 and PS 2 with emulator. Emulator for ps1 work so cool while ps 2 is a bit slow but they are fixed soon. To me i think you should get free emulator for PS 2 for your kid and save your money to do other thing for your son.

Don't wory about what games would you buy. Playstation 1 games can also be played in it. Even when the playstation 3 has arrived, you wont be left behind, cause I'm sure it will have some bugs around it. It will take a lot of time fix such bugs. If you want to buy now, then go on. Don't worry to much. It is bad for ones health. Pls add me as friend.

i imagine they will still put out new ps2 games for a while longer, probably a couple more years..but maybe not all the new "high end" games will be put out for the older system. though that being said they are still putting out new GBA SP games..even though though they have that Dual Screen handheld out. the plus about buying the old system is that the price of the system and the games will have dropped dramatically..so think of it like i told my 12yr old..you can have the new system and 1 game per year if your lucky..or you can have the old system and get a couple new games throughout the year! she decided on the older system lol! if you look at www.amazon.com and search for specific game titles (even much older ones) you can find many that are being sold for a 1/4 of the orginal price..and even be brand new in packaging! not to mention the used games you can get!
