I prefer the plane because it goes quickly over to long haul destinations and is usually not too expensive. I can leave an airport in my home country and fly to any airport, arriving just hours later. Flying to Australia takes just 24 hours, whilst economy plane seats are not very comfortable I feel happy at reaching the place I go to so very quickly. In a couple of days I get over the jet lag and really enjoy exploring my destination country. It would take six weeks or so to go all the way to Australia by ship. There might be poor weather and this would give me sea sickness. I might get bored by the incredibly long journey. However if I was allowed stops at ports on the way there it would be fascinating. But it would take even longer to get there. I would have much more space in a small but homely looking cabin. Planes are for covering a long distance quickly. Ships give a more leisurely journey. Flying to Barbados then taking a cruise around the Caribbean Islands would be my idea of an enjoyable holiday. One trip I fancy doing is from Panama to Colombia by yacht.

I'd much prefer by plane. Aside from the speed comparable to going on a ship, I tend to get a bit sea sick. That's no way to spend a vaction, being sick!

That would all depend on where I was going and how long I had. I've never been on a cruise but I'd really love to someday but if I were going somewhere to spend most og my vacation time I'd definitely prefer going by plane because it's so much quicker and you don't waste much time getting to your destination.
