Is It Just Me? Or...Wouldn't You Like To Know??

I've been here on MyLot for awhile now. I've made a lot of great friends here and I really feel close with a lot of folks here.
Now we all have our "avatars"...some kind of picture that we feel represents us, but with the exception of a few handful of people I don't know what the "real" person looks like. Now some of us do use our actual photos of who we are as part of our identity here, so now problem there. Then some of us have photos of what we really look like on our profile page. If you look at my profile page, for instance and look at my photos section, you'll see what I really look like--and the amazing thing is that some how commented that I look like the way they picture me if only through my postings here.
But then there are the mystery people. The ones who don't have photos of themselves, and so we can only go by their avatars, and I have to admit that drives me daft a bit.
So, is it just me? Wouldn't you just love to know what your friends really look like apart from the representational avatars they have? Or would that destroy the mystique, the anonymity that we like to have here? Wouldn't you like to know what your fellow MyLotter friend looked like?
Like I said I do have a photo of what I look like on my profile page, but heck, don't mind showing you here what I look like. LOL

Lol, black cat...your actual photo and your avatar matches perfectly. And no, you're not alone in trying to figure out how each of our fellow mylotters look like. I need to keep on saying this. I am a very private bunny by nature and prefer to keep my real "face" behind my cute bunny avatar. It is not that I am afraid of showing my real identity but more like being cautious. Anyway, most mylotter can easily identify me as the bunny who never get tired of hopping around and spreading my ultra-healthy carrots, lol.
I think it really depends on how confident and open you are to post your own picture. The avatars, on the other hand, kind of represent our role here and most of us have different reasons for using or choosing the avatar. Once you continue to interact with them, you will begin to form a picture of what they look like. I sure hope you already have an idea of how I look like black cat. La...la...la...=)

You reminded me of one of my mylot friend here. I agree with what you said that we prefer people to get to know our real thoughts and feelings through our posts. It really doesn't matter what we all look like. What matters is the sincerity and honest opinion we put together. Cheers :P

Well I have to admit I do love your bunny avatar charms..LOL.
I don't know if it's a question of feeling confident about posting one's picture here. I never really like the way I look. **gasps** you should see my Photo ID photo..HORRIBLE..I would definitely never post that picture anywhere
Aww you shouldn't be so down on yourself mooch, but it's funny that you would prefer your avatar photo...so does that imply that you're stormy and overcast? LOL
And yes, I can readily identify people by their avatar pics. That's why I sometimes get confused when people keep changing them all the time. I don't think I would ever change my kitty avatar as people seem to identify me with it...so it stays. I've been using the same avatar for about four years wherever I post an avatar picture--if I changed it, I don't think even I would recognize me. LOL

Yes I totally agree it is nice to see what people look like but there are many people like me that do not take a good picture, and have you ever known anyone with a weight problem that felt comfortable with having her picture taken? For some of us we just don't do it. You raise a very valid point however and yes you're right I appreciate the picture.

I'm never really happy with the way I look in pictures to be honest. If you ever saw my Photo Id picture you'd laugh hysterically. Thank goodness I don't have to show it to anyone too often

I have a photo of me on profile page in my photos section. I don't mind showing what I look like. I don't use it as an avatar b/c I like using my siggy tags and having me looking back out at me is creepy to me LOL

I guess it would be weird to see one's face as an avatar looking back at you. LOL. Saw your pic, plus your mom as a witch for Halloween, and Morgana your kitty.. I see a resemblance between you and your mom..People are always telling me I looked like my mom too. Don't know if that is a good thing or not. :(

Well, I am a monkey.. lol. I like using avatars to express more of my personality. The monkey here expresses my kids and goofy nature. My Yuwie avatar, pretty much explains itself. My other avatars are all a part of who I am. I would much rather someone get to know me and my personality, views, etc than looks alone. Not to mention I utterly hate, abhor, despise the way I look. If you must know I have a photo slide show on my profile and if you can figure out who I am.. then you will know..lol. (hint.. just look for the "larger" ugly one) lol

Aha...I better hop in and check your profile, monkey. "grin" Of all mylotters, only one knows what I look like. I wouldn't mind sending my real picture with both of you but I need to have my scanner set up properly. Eversince I started using windows vistas, I can't installed my scanner. I think I need to buy a new one that is compatible with vistas.

Yes I wish I could get mine up there. But I dont have my scanner hooked up and I dont know how to do it. Im going to ask my husband to do it. I would love to see what everyone looks like. I think you look very syfistacated. I know I spelled that wrong. I think you should be looking towards us! thanks for sharing. Im going to work on mine.

I would love to see what you look like my cyber sister! One question I've been dying to ask. You're a kitty lover, yet you have a cute puppy as an avatar..why? Just curious me. Aw..me sophisticated??...hehee That was from a series of self-portrait shots I did which was darn hard to do

I don't mind actually. But then again I'm one of those people who don't have their picture anywhere. Or at least a unedited picture.
Those of whom I feel closer to can or have seen a picture of me. And on occasions in the past under discussions I have added a picture of me.
I'm just very private about things like that is why I do it.

I have one picture of myself on here, but I don't openly declare its me.
I'm not terribly shy, but I do tend to hate pictures of myself. I mean I have fun taking pictures...but once they're on the computer, I find excuses to delete them. It's a bad habit of mine.
The most pictures of me which exist are on myspace. Being young few people can really see them, 'cause myspace won't let most people see my page unless they're friends. I give the link to anyone who asks, but otherwise I don't really give a damn lol.
I have curiousity of people, I do admit that. But I'd never ask for a picture, I'd let someone offer to.
I like the mystique, myself.
But otherwise..meh. I could be talking to an alien donkey from planet BOING for all I care, lol. They're interesting, we talk well..it's a cool thing.

I'd been playing with the photo editing program, so the edges are softened and crisper and the color's different, but otherwise, that's moi. Lol.

I'm very critical of photos of me as well. MyGod. You should see my Photo Id photo..better yet, NOT. Horrible. Hey you look great there. How did you get that effect?

I used to put my real photo, with my husband, as avatar. I know this may sound strange but since I took the photo and website off, I seem to encounter less problem than before. Someone told me that opening up works for some people and not for some, unfortunately I am the latter. I would lie if I said life has no problems, but I feel that these problems are different, not like the ones I always encounter due to my own carelessness, stupidity or other's screw up try to scam me because this can happen to anybody really.
I am a bit shy myself and prefer to remain in the backstage anyway. The avatar I put now is not me, but looks like me I guess if you can see the face better :)

Hi pyewacket! Yes, i do wonder how other mylotters especially my mylot friends here look like. I guess it would be really nice seeing photos of each and everyone of us. Yes, It would be nice to know what my friends here in myLot look like. I'm not shy and I don't hide my looks in my avatar, some of my friends here in myLot knows how I look like already from my profile in the other site. It's only here in myLot that I didn't post any of my pictures and I kinda like it, it adds to the mystery. And sometimes while reading my fellow myLotters discussion or respond i'll stop and wonder if how she/he look like until my imagination runs wild..lol. Maybe one day i'll use my own photo as my avatar here..*weheheh* Take care.

Hi pyewacket,hehehe.YES!there is one in particular that id give anything to really know what they looked like,i dont know why it bugs me so much to know what this person looks like for some reason,haha!We should for 1 day put our real photos of us,just for one day to give us a taste of what we look like,instead of racking our brains,haha.
Oh by the way,the kitty that i was taking care of,she went to her new home monday.My daughters frined came to play and her mom saw the kitty on our door step and i explained that i found her and was taking care of her,but was looking for a nice home and no-one claimed her since i put an announce on the local radio.Well!When she came back to pick up her daughter she blurted out "did someone call?Do you want to give her away??????I went to the store and bought some food,bed,litter box and toys and would like to have her if its o.k".She showed me the stuff she bought and seemed very excitable.I said yes,of course.Her boyfriend doesnt like cats and she said its his tough luck!She calls me every night to tell me how good the cat is and she keeps her in the house all the time,a house kitty.Her boyfriend came around and likes her too,haha.They named her "MOLLY" and im sooo happy!Its their first kitty,the mom loves cats. I don't have any photos of myself that have passed muster. I don't know if I'm just totally unphotogenic, or overly critical, but some of the pictures that have been taken of me I can only hope I don't look that horrid in real life!
One photo that I actually liked I don't know what I did with. It was a 'candid' shot rather than posed, and it's funny to me how a photo that caught me just waking up where I hadn't brushed my hair in weeks and it was starting to form dreadlocks, was better than any posed photo I've ever taken, like when I went to my brother's wedding. Make-up on, nice clothes, etc... shudder.
My daughter keeps all the 'family photos' on her computer... I'll have her email them to me and see if I can find one that I can live with to post on my profile page I guess. Just for you. Hehehe.
And that is too funny how in your photo you totally look like 'pyewacket'!!

To me your avatar says you are a cat person and from post you are an animal lover reall I dont need to know more and with other people that I get close to we can email each other pics if we want and I do have a pic in my profile if any one wants to see what I look like . It just dont bother me that thier avatar isnt them but some thing that represents them.

My real pic is in my profile. I can understand why some people wouldn't put it in though. You never know who is looking at these things, and people may be hesitant to reveal too much about themselves.

I like to know what my friends look like after a certain point of getting to know them at least. I don't mind if someone doesn't have a photo on their profile page, but if I'm been talking to them for a long time, I will usually eventually ask for a photo. It's actually mostly to help me when I'm down, because then I can more easily imagine myself just going and hanging out with my friends, sort of. :)
I have my photo on my profile page, sort of. It's a silly shot with my husband and son, so it probably doesn't show me as well as a picture just of me would. But I don't have any pictures of me I'm really happy with right now. When I get one, I'll put it up too, but I think the one I have will do for now.

I guess I chose my avatar because I love dragons and this one is a lovely piece of artwork. Most of the photographs of me are usually snaps taken by others, I hate having my photograph taken anyway so none of the ones I have are particularly good. I do have one picture of myself but not as the *real* me rather it is a picture taken at one of the live action role play events I attend and I was very much "in character" when it was taken :-) I suppose I prefer using my dragon as I feel too self-conscious to show the real me

I like to know what my closest friends look like and for the most part I do. I have never tried to create a picture of someone by what they write it would invariably be so far off and very disappointing. I am not sure how to upload pictures especially from my mail attachments. Actually they are somewhere else altogether now because the mail I use was not going to store them any longer. So I don't even know where it is anymore...lol. I have like two pictures of myself and thats about it, for I won't sit still for a camera. Hate having my picture taken and it shows.
