It is called freerice.com. I visited the site, but it is down right now. I understand that a record number of donations were made yesterday, after it was featured on a television show. Has anyone ever played it? I am bookmarking it.

I went over and found the site up so I decided to score grains of rice for as long as I didn't miss a word and then stop and come back here to report. After scoring 280 grains of rice, I was stumped by the word icteric which means jaundice, after the Latin root "ictericus" meaning unhealthy in the sense of yellowing skin or other symptoms of a bad diet. How fitting.

Wow, I hadn't noticed the bowl count so I went back to check it out today and missed a few but kept going and there were a lot of bowls lining up but sometime after I scored about 700 grains of rice the site crashed, so I dunno if thos e hungry people got fed or not. I think it is great that people here are challenging their kids to try these words though, because many of them are wonderful words and easy to compare to their cognates. A very good exercise as well as an apparently worthy cause. This time I noticed there is a little number, too, that comes up rating one's vocabulary level in some manner.

This is the kind of thing my kids would have loved as well. I have gotten up to the level of 49 a time or two, 50, as I read it, is their highest level. I do not necessarily know all of the words, but I know the meanings of roots, suffixes, and prefixes. I took Latin for two years, and that helped a lot. Great brain stretcher.

The site looks good, even though I could not play the game. I learned some stuff just from visiting. I hope lots of people visit it and enjoy it.

I just went to the site. It's great! I managed to get 100 grains so far. Will do more everyday. Thanks for the tip. It's great when we can help others; especially when it doesn't take much to do it.

Yup! I did. I found it through a blogger friend, who is also a myLot member. What? You posted this a year ago? I just find out Freerice.com last month. heck! Anyway, I love that site, it's beneficial for everybody. You can learn new words, at the same time, if you get them correctly, you're able to feed hungry mouths. Funny, you don't need to bookmark it. It's very easy to remember. lol ^^ I got addicted playing it.
