Not the toilet door, not the bedroom door but the main door. Yes, the main door to your house. Before you pull out your bunch of keys and unlock the gate/door, do you look around you first? You know, what if a stranger suddenly approaches and he turns out to be a robber? For me, I am normally quite careful. I try to make sure that it is "ALL CLEAR" because I unlock the gate. But if I hear sounds nearby, I would still not be so paranoid as to strike a defense pose. :P I would still open the gate but I will try to extend my peripheral vision to the farthest and be ready to react should anything happen. What about you? Do you glance around and check for strangers before unlocking your door or gate? Do share your thoughts. =)

Since we're a bunch of girls here, I always make sure to be extra careful while opening the main door. The house I'm presently living in have a common gate. Here's something I like to share with you. Since a new neighbor moved in a few months ago, their maids and workers always left the gate open. I already posted a notice right there on the gate to CLOSE it at all time. It is a good thing that there's a guard guarding the gate from 8AM to 8PM. Apparently, these people didn't understand what caution means. I discovered countless of times that the main gate was left open during nighttime. I addressed this concern to the new neighbor and yet, nothing happened. My house is the closest to the gate. In case there's robbers, my house will be the first one they will think of entering. And so, I have to prepare myself and turn into wonder woman should it happened, lol! Talks about crappy neighbor. =(

lol...(bunny getting cramps from laughing!!!) You missed my point baby. The guard is only on-duty until 8PM. My house is located on one of the busiest street. I better start saving on my precious bottles. Or better yet, I can use some of it and smashed on anyone who didn't bother to close the gate. :P

I ask who it is at the door, or I may even peek to see who is at the door, I think it is better to look first. My Grand-children has a habit of opening up the door, without asking who it is, I told them check first, just don't open the door right away.

Not really. My front door is not near any bush or trees or walls where someone can hide. Plus, at night we have security lights. You know, the kind that flash on if someone is there. Mostly I look out for my cats, who want to race me through the door at top speed. I understand your need for security for checking everything. It is a good idea to be safe.

I am always aware if people are on my balcony that are not my neighbours as I go to my door. Also, one of my neighbours has been in and out of hospital for mental health issues and on ocassions he has been a little crazy. For this reason I am always on guard if he makes an appearance as I go to my door. Living in London we often need r=eyes in the back of our head!

I do. I dont know why though. Its just a reaction I guess. Make sure no one sees me going to my own house. LOL. I do check whos out when I go to let my dogs out. I let them out with no line and they stay in the yard unless thee neighbors are out. Then they have to go visit. So I look out the door and make sure there not out.

Yes I do. With so many bad elements, bad people nowadays, we have to be more cautious. I guess it is just right to look and see around before opening the door.

No. I don't live in a bad neighborhood where I feel I should have to. Plus, I live at the top of a bunch of stairs and there's not much of a landing so no one can hide up there and if someone comes up the stairs after me there's not much I could do.

Well for us here, we have this security guard in front of the building and no one is allowed to enter the building without knowing where or which apartment they well be visiting so normally we dont have anyone around when opening the main door at home.

We live in a relatively safe area, so we never do, unless at night, but during the day there are always neighbours around or peeping out of their net curtains, we also have neighbourhood watch, but I guess it only takes one occasion! We always leave the light on at night if a a family member is out so there is plenty of light around when they come to open the door.

Well, I live in a suburb with yard around me. I don't worry too much if noone is too close around and I can see that from getting out of the car. No, I don't walk from my house anywhere with my bad feet.

Very interesting question, and yes i always do look around before i enter a door. I am very paranoid of intruders and it just eases my mind to stop for a second and look around. Who knows it might save my life one day. + for a cool topic.
