Perfect weight?

What would you consider to be the perfect weight? There is so much emphasis on weight these days. Everyone is either overweight or underweight it seems. so how do we know what is correct? I even heard that the ideal weight research is funded by the companies that make weight loss products. does this effect the ideal weight?

I think weight is just a number that is overrated. There are many people with different body types and it's what makes up your weight that matters. At 5'11 I'm considered overweight if I weigh over 185 lbs. Take a look at all the football players that are 5'11. Most of them are between 195 and 240 and they are solid muscle. You're better off doing a skin fold test to determine the fat content in your body. Your weight is not an accurate measure of how healthy you are.

It's actually a pretty simple test. Basically you pinch the skin either under your tricep or behind your shoulder blade and check the thickness. Here is a site where they describe how it works. http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwfit/bodycomp.html There are overpriced tools for measuring, but I'm sure you can find a guide somewhere that explains how to do it yourself without braking the bank. They can also do it at some gyms like the YMCA.

This may seem like a stupid question, but how does the skin fold test work? what do you have to do and how do you measure it? what is it measured against? would you consider yourself healthy?

hi! normal body weight is based on your height and frame of body. however, many people are not contented with their ideal weight because, depending on their perspective, they are either too thin or too fat. it really depends on who or what we value...these perceptions determine our idea of what an ideal weight is. it doesn't matter though...as long as we are healthy and can function normally...:-)

That is very true, but what would you consider to be healthy? I mean some would say that if you are 'overweight' you are at more risk of many illnesses and cancers - so what's overweight? There are also many of these theories linked with 'underweight'. But how do we know for sure if we are healthy? the healthy weight ranges are very different to what they were a decade ago!

hi! thanks for the BR! well, right now, i can't exactly say that i am healthy....although i haven't been getting sick of allergies, colds, and migraine that had haunted me in the past, but i don't think i am healthy. because i gained so much weight since my wedding and now i am heavy and my knees and feet are already complaining. hehehe anyway, thanks and God bless! :-)

Some are based no the standard requirement set by the nutritionists and medical specialists concerned. For me, I have no any particular ideal weight. I will be happy enough as long as I could get any clothes of medium size for me from any local boutiques. This could show that my weigh still quite ideal lol ...

I would say that a person finding their ideal weight can be very simple. It should not be based on what other people think. Instead, it should be the weight at which YOU think you look your best, and where YOU feel the healthiest.

hehe, when it come to making the weight perfect, what i wanna say is ,no matter how emphatic the perfect weight is,to notice your health which is the base of perfect weight. take care. and wish you achieve your aim early.
