I just arrived from a very appetizing and tasty dinner. I don't often go to a Japanese restaurant but this one, although the place is very small, serves really good food. I'm not so familiar with the dishes but what I ate were really yummy. For appetizer I had yakitori - grilled chicken pieces on skewers with teriyaki sauce, soup (I'm not sure if it's called chanko nabe or Zusoi) which has shrimps, clams, mussels, chicken pieces, salmons slices, mushrooms and cabbages. Both of these were very tasty. What's more fascinating with the soup is that it was placed in a paper which is held by a strainer-like bowl and underneath it was a flame to keep the soup hot. The paper wasn't burning because of the soup inside it. Afterwards, we had a platter filled with sashimi and sushi. Since I don't eat raw foods, I only had cooked sushis except for one. There was this sushi which tasted really really good and it was called butterfish. All of us were very impressed with how distinct it's taste was. How about you? How do you like Japanese food?

hello mabe, i am not an expert on jap-food, as i c a slight difference from it and chi-food. i do love the sushi though, un-cooked and raw. salmon is my fave. I dont like the amoericanised version of it. I adore the sea-food selection. and ho, they have this great soup with a giant shrimp drowned and fried bread crumbs in it. just so yummy! you are making me hungry!!

Mabe? That's a new nickname ;-) Actually there's a big difference between Japanese and Chinese food though there are few similarities like the dimsum. Apart from Sushi and Sashimi, Japanese often have soup with seafoods and meat in it, though they have noodles like the Chinese food but not that much varieties. I also enjoy Chinese food but I find some of their food too oily but maybe it depends on the restaurant.

I quite like Japanese food, yeah. I grew up in a very Mediterranean environment, and so never really got to try any different cuisines until I moved out of home - and now I'm totally addicted! I mean, there's only so much pizza, pasta and stuffed vine leaves a girl can eat, right?

Hehehe 'kinda like your comment :-D I've already tried Mediterranean food but is Greek also considered as a Mediterranean dish? But going back to the Japanese cuisine. I've heard from one of my friends that food in Tokyo has actually been given by the Michelin Red Guide (restaurant guide) around 191 stars (from which 8 restaurants were given 3 stars - the highest rating) which makes it nearly double the number that was given to Paris. For more info, you can check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelin_Guide or http://www.3starrestaurants.com

Before i don't like Japanese food, but since i've tasted it, i can't stop looking for it every time we dine out. The only problem is that, it cost too much...hehehe :)

Do you go to Saisaki or is there another Japanese resto over there? Maybe when I go home I'm gonna try the Japanese resto there just to taste the difference. Wanna join? ;-D

I am half Japanese myself, but I hate seafood! LOL. The only japanese seafood dish i like is cooked eel. Other than that, I like chicken, egg, noodle, rice and tofu japanese dishes, like oyakodon and misoshiru.

Konnichiha megumiart :-D have you tried butterfish? They also serve it raw but slightly cooked on the outside. The one I've tried kinda had a lemony flavor.
