What do you think about a Christmas card exchange here on mylot?

I was just reading responses to my discussion on sending and receiving Christmas cards and noticed that quite a few members don't receive any. In the spirit of giving I think it would be nice if we sent even an ecard to our mylot friends. Obviously, since most of us have over 100-200 freinds on their list we wouldn't send one to everyone but we can send ecards to our out of the country friends.
All we would have to do is pm the friends we want to send cards to whichever way we choose and ask for their home address or email address. Remember we can always block an address if we think we are getting spam from someone so don't worry about that too much. Think about the Christmas spirit not the downside that only might happen. If someone tells you they would rather not give it out don't take it in a bad way just know they are being cautious. You are asking because you care and some people just don't care to receive cards.
What are your thoughts about this? Would you ask your friends for their address either way to send them a card? Would you give your home or email address to one of your friends?

That's a good idea although I prefer the idea of real cards and not Ecards. I can't help it - I just think E cards are pretty lame lol! Although of course people may not want to give out their real address I suppose. I don't think it would worry me personally. Most of my friends are on another continent so it's unlikely they would turn up on my doorstep!

As much as I love the "real" thing, that is getting a physical card, it could get pretty expensive to mail out..I know I'm a bit strapped and no way could mail cards to my MyLotter friends...so guess they'll have to settle for e-cards.

I think an ecard is just as nice. It's the thought that counts!

That sounds like a sweet idea. I doubt that i'll be a participant ha ha. I do like funny ecards but I'm probably not going to remember to ask people for emails. But that is a good idea and I'm sure everyone who does particpate will enjoy the cards very much.

I had just planned to start going through my friend list and pm ing all of my friends greetings. Nothing fancy. Just an "I am thinking of you." I have some friends who have gone inactive, and it would be a great way and reason to say "HI". It is nice to greet people. I do have some e-mails from some of my friends here. It is great to celebrate, however you choose to do it.

I think it's a great idea! I would love to participate in something like that. I don't have too many people that I know in person to send to or receive from. I understand the importance of being cautious with personal information but I think the realistic risk of anyone on here using it for somethong bad is really slim.

Well I did think it was a LOVELY idea and I acted on it but now I'm thinking I shouldn't have. I'll still send out to those I have addresses for already just so they know I didn't have alterior motives for getting their e-mails but won't be asking for anymore...so if anyone reading this who is on my list but didn't get a meassage from me yet -I didn't leave you out I just didn't have time to send messages to all of my important friends in one sitting, I would have loved to send you a card also but I'm no longer asking for addresses. I don't want anyone else thinking I abused our friendship.

I'm with you! Just with the cost of gas who would go across country to harrass someone? Not going to happen is it?

I mentioned this elsewhere on stiletto...yes, I'm all for exchanging cards to folks, but sending physical cards out to even a third of those on my friends list I would have to take out a loan--LOL..don't mind e-cards really..hey it's the thought that counts, no? If I can I might even design one of my own using a former kitty photo of mine..LOL. One cute place for e- cards especially for pet lovers (mainly cats) is
http://www.actioncat.com/postcards.html
I use it all the time. I just PM'd you --will give you my email

I think being able to send e cards is a great idea but I wouldn't make it only for Christmas. There are so many non Christian My Lotters ans we should have all types of e cards to send. Birthday, anniversary, and sympathy cards should be available.

I think that's a lovely idea, ctry! I would love to receive some cards, and, yes to send some out. I don't see a problem with it. Anyone who doesn't wish to participate wouldn't have to.

I would be happy to give to people who don't receive Christmas cards that want them. Some people live in countries where getting an X-mas card could be dangerous (look at how dangerous it is to name a Teddy Bear). I would be happy to send out one card each to 10 people who do not receive a card. I think if they have P. O. Boxes, it would be less dangerous for them. Most Mylot people are cool, but violent people and preditors seem to serf the net looking for victims and I'd hate to assist with that. More than 10, especially if postage is to a foreign country, it could get very expensive. So if 10 people wish to privately email me from my friends who don't get X-mas cards, I will send cards to them. I don't have a PO Box address, so my return address will be missing or missing my street address, but Writersedge will be on there.
I think it's a neat idea. I once had an ex-boyfriend send me a card for Valentine's day just because I was sad that I wouldn't be having anyone to celebrate V day with. Thought that was sweet.
Just hope everyone I send a card to recycles the card. There are many crafts for recycling cards that they can find. Take care.

We could always send our out of the country friends an e card. I wouldn't want to see the postage to send a real one or even wonder if they would get it by Christmas.

I would eamil my wish to my friend and relations,if they could be on net.but in fact, many of them have not gotten a computer or available net line.some students say that it is not sinere to email your card or wish, and we should send our real gifts to our friends. But some say that is a waste of paper and make pollution.I accept each choice ,it depends on circumstance.
