Big Bushfire/Scrub near my Home!

Late yesterday we had a big electrical storm. This started many fires throughout the State. My husband was travelling home by bus, & he described how people were becoming very agitated, as the lightening strikes were very near. All of a sudden he saw a massive strike hit the ground. Instantly, smoke & fire erupted. This near our home, but near enough to be dangerous to us. The area became quickly covered in thick smoke. A number of roads were closed & everyone had to put their car lights on. I had to take my daughter to swimming shortly after the fire started. The smell from the smoke was overpowering. Fire Engines rushed past us, & shortly after the helicopter water bomber flew around. The states largest reservoir is very near my home, & they use it to collect water & bomb fires. At much the same time, twelve fires started on Kangaroo Island. This is south of Adelaide. I own a holiday home there. Sadly, a twenty year old has already died in the bush fires started there. I have attached a photo of the bushfire in my area.

Hi jennybianca! Oh my gosh, I hope all of you are fine. This discussion has been posted 6 days ago and I am in and out of mylot lately and this is only now that I came to your discussion. I hope no one is really injured in that bushfire. Please take care and I am hoping by now, everything is back to normal to all of you out there. Take care and have a nice day. :)

In the seventies, I had friends who lived near the mountains in Southern California. They had to be ready during fire season to evacuate, and kept certain things to take with them at a moment's notice, like important documents, and family photos. Are you prepared that way? When you left with your daughter were you afraid your home might be gone? I remember wildfires near my grandparents home as a child. Around here we hear about "controlled burns" for agricultural reasons, but once in awhile they get out of "control".

My home at Penneshaw (kangaroo Is.) is rented out to a tenant. The main bushfire preparation there is to have all grass & scrub cleared around the home. The last I heard, my tenanbt had not done that adequately, as was being fined. The bushfires on Kangaroo Island are so bad, that a State of Emergency is about to be called.
