Does it bother you when workmen are using fowl language?

There have been workmen in my building for 3 days and they have been in the halls and in the basement. I live on the first floor and can hear everything they say when they are down there. It seems like every other word they say is the 'F' word! I'm not in the habit of swearing myself and wince everytime I hear it. The funny thing is I was on the phone with my daughter yesterday telling her about this and didn't realize that one of them was in my apartment and heard the whole conversation! Would you say anything to workmen who consistantly talked like this? Are you used to hearing bad language and it doesn't bother you?

Well I am going to have tease you and pick on you. Not to be mean but just because the word you used to describe offensive language is the wrong spelling and conjured up all sorts of funny images in my mind. I believe you meant foul meaning to offend and speak vulgarly. Yes that does upset me. I have grandkids and their other granddad uses all sorts of vularaities in their presence which of course being children they pick up on and say F, A, S words. Then get in trouble. The five year old who adores this other granddad said well "Grandpa says them" We told her Grandpa was uneducated and didn't know better and should have his mouth washed out. We explained this was unacceptable language for anyone to speak. So she told him that. LOL. Still since he was here all summer and they were around him they heard his curses daily. We are still having to correct and punish for offensive language they picked up but it is getting better. Now as to the word Fowl that conjured up guys talking about birds which is the meaning of that spelling. They were discussing Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Songbirds, etc. LOL. Sorry not trying to offend just struck me funny.

That gets me so upset when people are using fowl language around me. It shows they have a poor vocabulary and cannot express themselves correctly. I usually let them know that I don't appreciate the F words they are using.

I don't like to come of as a prude but I really don't appreciate hearing bad language and that's the bottom line. At least one of them heard me complain by accident although that didn't seem to stop them.

Ladies I don't want to be patronizing but "fowl" are chickens and other birds that we eat. 1. " Any of various birds of the order Galliformes, especially the common, widely domesticated chicken (Gallus gallus). 2. a. A bird, such as the duck, goose, turkey, or pheasant, that is used as food or hunted as game. b. The flesh of such birds used as food. 3. A bird of any kind. Source: Dictionaries What you object to is foul language. I do too, I cannot stand it.

This is your home and you have the right to say something about their language. When I frist met my ex his brother had a bad habit of using that 4 letterd word and I told him that when he was in my home he wasn't to use it. It made him and my ex mad, but later when he came to my house he treated me with respect. So at least when the workmen are in your apartment you have the right to ask that they respect you. I would complain to the landlord about the language if thar dosen't work I would see about the overseer.

Thankfully they have finished their work today and won't be coming back so I'm going to leave it at that. I really don't care what they do anywhere else but hope others will complain.

Neither of my work environments include foul language, and my homelife certainly does not. There are certain stars who's movies I will not go to for that same reason. I would possibly be gutsy enough to ask them to respect me, and not talk that way. I once was going to write an owner of a two store chain of auto repair shops about one of his employees using the language at me. I called to get his name and address and he happened to be at the local store, and took care of the problem when I told him about it. Most of the owners of business, in my experience, do not want their employees to talk that way.

I think it's great that you went out of your way to make sure that man's boss knew about him. You're right business owners probably do want to hear about their workers when their out on the road.

We have workers in our building all the time. They're pretty good about it. But we did actually have workers banned and one get fired because of the language they were using. One made a very racist comment with the person of that race being right behind them to hear everything. I think that they are working in environments they won't necessarily be coming back to so they just don't think about what they're saying.

Oh, thank you for staying out of the "barnyard" on this one...ha ha ha..... That's the funny thing because these guys do the electrical work around here and they WILL be back at some point for something or other.

Ha ha. Yeah. Sometimes people really just don't think! we have electricians that come often too. But they're usually pretty good and we have good relationships with them so things work out and they're forgiven mostly. We had nice eye candy for a while too. But my eye candy left to go work for his girlfriends dad. how lame!

They use "fowl" language? Does that mean they cluck like chickens or quack like ducks? Yeah, it annoys me when they do that. All it does is attract a bunch of dirty birds that leave care packages all over my house and drveway. What a pain. They should stick to English (or whatever language they speak natively).

It really bothers me.I was having a distribution firm, emplying 40 members and most of them were drivers, delivery boys. Probably due to monotonous work, they always use to abuse the customers or talk among themselves using foul language. To break this habit,I started talking to them when they assmeble in the evening over a cup of coffee. I also started making a surprise site visits where they use to have lunch. I cautioned that those who use the badwords will have to forgo their weekly incentive. Then it turned out to be a social gathering, with curt and manners. Later I involved their families in the monthly meetings and get together and it almost completely stopped though habits die hard. Outwardly they started posing as decent gentlemen. Slowly I brought in a trainer who could teach them good manners and good talk.I quit the business and I do not know whether they continue their one up gentlemenship.

I hate being around that type of language but not sure I'd have the guts to say anything to a group of men. Just depends. I could ask them is that the way they'd talk around their mothers...LOL...I'm 58...maybe it'd work.

I remember our induction into the Army when we had the Queen's Regulations read to us by the RSM. He said 'Article 26 (or whatever it was) - You shall not f...ing swear or use foul f...ing language' You can imagine it brought the house down! I was one of the very few who didn't get into the habit of swearing every three words because I don't swear as a matter of course. OK, I swear when I hit my thumb with a hammer but not as a regular event. If I hear it I say 'Hey! Watch your language - there are women present' and that usually does the trick. Trouble is, many women swear like troopers nowadays!

It wouldn't bother me because I use that word all the time. But if you are really uncomfortable, you should talk to the guys.If you are polite, I bet they would stop using that word.

I might just probably tell them to quit swearing in my home, especially if my son was home with me too. I'm not use to hearing it alot so it probably would bother me.

If it bothers you I feel that you have the right to complain, ctry. I'm used to hearing all kinds of bad language and it usually doesn't phase me, but I would think workers would be more discreet in their choice of language while on the job.

You would think so wouldn't you? I really was surprised when I heard it in streams and not just every so often. It really was annoying to me.

Fowl language is offensive and an embarrassment to whoever is hearing it. We know children learn by seeing and doing-to be shouting fowl landuage near kids spoils them.

Due to their worknature and strain they use to talk with their colleagues with fowl languages towards quicker finishing towards particular work. Eventhough we could hear we should close our ears and just supervise the work. It happened to me a lot because they dont wat to supervise their work by us so sometimes indirectly they sometimes instead abuse us they will abuse their workmen with them. All in the work and the life due to their strains.

That "F" word is so popular now days it is used almost every other word..I personally hate the word but all the guys and now gals are using that word now days..It is almost like the first word to fall out of their mouth. They have no respect for others , they are just wanting to act "Cool", Oh i forgot the new word for "cool" now is "sweet" so pretty soon "sweet" will be coming right next to the "F" word..haha...I don't know what you could do about it...The guy that over heard you on the phone will probably run tell the others so maybe they will calm down their language some......

It depends on where they work, if they are confined 2 a workshop where noone could hear what they say I mean it would not bother me very much but if they're working in a public place or a place inhabited by families and kids i think they have to mind their language, I worked in a plant before and it bothered me in the beginning but with time i found that it might be a part of their character of course we can't generalize. They aren't bad as people but that's the way they talk, they've got used to it so what can we do then? :D

I am used to hearing bad language and it doesnt annoy me.You shouldnt generalize stuff when talking about workmen. Not all workmen do that, and not all people who swear are workmen. If you dont like it u should tell them to stop or avoid talking like that. And the F word, sorry but is it really so annoying to you?Its heard so often that u should have been used to it after all :)
