Conservationists in my area have a good reason to be excited since they have found proof of the return of the bobcat to my area in Ohio, the first time in a hundred years. A story on the news said that a nearby conservation park had been preparing the area with all the essentials that would attract the animals once again. Evidently, their efforts have paid off. The American Bobcat is on the endangered species list. I like the look of big cats, but I don't think I'll get too close to them, lol. Have you ever seen one? I have a photo of the bobcat.

That's wonderful news! And kudos to everyone who's helped bring this about in that conservation park. Do you remember the name of the park? I've never seen a bobcat up close but have seen photos; they're gorgeous animals.

I have been experiencing computer problems for the last couple of days, CatAnna, but I will find out the name. It is in Ohio, and they think the cats might have migrated down from Indiana.

Yes please post the name of the park if you come across it. Maybe they have a website and something about the bobcats... I'd love to visit it. Condolences on the computer woes... I think we've all been there! I hope your system is being more cooperative now.

The name of the park is Germantown Metropark, CatAnna. If you would like to access the story go to www.daytonsnewssource.com. If you type in the word 'Bobcat' in the search box it will take you to the item.

I have heard that the bobcat is back here. Right now, our community is having trouble with coyotes. We never have before and they are killing deer by the herds. We also are getting alot of reports of bears, that we haven't had either.

Is there a problem with predatory animals eating deer that are their natural foods? In many parts of the country the deer populations is getting out of hand and they are eating plants that are protecting the natural water. That is they are eating plants that help to keep runoff from entering our drinking water. If these deer are left to eat all of this vegetation then there may be many out breaks of diseases in humans. There needs to be a balance of how many deer and other (vegetarian animals) that are left. Over population of any species can bring about dire consequences to the whole ecology of an area or even the world.

I think that nature is entirely out of balance, Thoroughrob, as signified by the number of predatory animals that are bold enough to come out into the open now. We have encroached on their natural habitat way too much.

One of the little regional zoos has bobcats. Actually, I think that several of our zoos do. We really enjoy zoos, so I get to see lots of wild animals.

I think they are beautiful animals, GG, but I suppose the safest way to see one would be in captivity.

Good for Ohio and the Bobcat. I have seen them in the zoo but never in the wild. I am always glad when we can return big cats of any type to their natural habitat. They are such beautiful and graceful creatures and we should respect them more than we do.

I used to hear about them when I lived in Tennessee, but never knew they had once been in this area before.

Last year we had a bob cat walk through our back yard. We also have fox, opossum, raccoon, skunks, coyotes and I think that there might be fisher cats around. Oh yes we have bears go through our yard once in a while. There are quite a few birds around here also including hawks and eagles as well as crows, blue jays, cardinals, among others. People wonder why the deer population is so high and it is because we (humans) have killed off too many predator animals.

You are absolutely right, oscarbartoni, and that puts nature out of balance. How fortunate you are to be able to see so many species of wildlife.
