Supposedly, there is a planned voyage from England to Timbuktu using Chocolate as the fuel! That's right, chocolate. This may end up being a carbon negative trip and a real eye opener for sciences, travel and alternative fuel research. Of course, being a chocolate fan I found this story pretty fun (plus a science fan, a travel fan, etc).

And apparently, mis-shaped chocolate and older chocolates will be used for fuel (namely for fats/recycled fats and for complex sugars, both fuel components).

Well now that's a unique alternative fuel source. It's not all that surprising since in theory anything with "energy" can be used as a fuel source provided someone can figure out how to harness that energy. I personally perfer the idea of recycled vegetable oil but at least the "bad" chocolate will be used for something.

There are plenty of sources out and newer ones being researched. The technology that is out and the technology in development is excellent.

What a relief! Finally, some more progress in turning waste into fuel! For a number of years now, some landfills have been using the methane produced there to fuel the equipment and trucks in the fill. Some of the closed ones have been selling it for use as heating fuels or as an addition to or substitute for CNG. Then came some guy (I think he was in Texas) that built his own refinery for all the refuse he could get his hands on. His process turned everything into a slurry that once strained, produce usable fuel. Now this! Very exciting to see someone pick up the ball and go forward with waste-based fuel supplies! I still wonder if or when the municipalities will use the methane from the sewer works to power their equipment and vehicles. So much available fuel here that we can harvest from the billions of tons of waste we all generate. Hopefully in the near future it will be a matter of practice, not just merely experimentation.

What an awesome link, I really enjoyed reading this article. It gives me hope. We do produce tons of waste yearly, and I am afraid I would feel compelled to eat all of that misshapen chocolate to take it out of the equation. Biofuel is a much healthier alternative. Merry Christmas, friend, and happy chocolate.

Biodiesel will greatly give this earth the chance to live longer. Will also make the human race healthier. I think we really need to have a carbon-negative daily life.
Thanks to research, who make things possible under the sun. This type of research are worth trying for. This will benefit the human kind and mother earth.
The natural resources that we have will help us restore this earth we are all living in.
