I was wondering if it's normal for one's IQ number to drop over the years? I'm sure as we stop studying or age that there is a normal drop. Every year I take an IQ test and I've noticed that in the past 5 years... I've dropped 8 points taking me from a 132 Gifted to Above Average at a now 124. What gives? I dropped 5 points in this last year alone! I'm thinking if this continues... I'll be at -10 before long, lol. Any ideas on things that could cause such a big drop? I'm wondering if it might be health related?

Any single test should be taken with a grain of salt so to speak. There are various types of IQ tests. You are right, your results could be health related, and it could be stress related. I think you have had a stressful year if I remember correctly. You are looking after your mom and you have some concerns as well. Try taking two or three various types of IQ tests, and average your results. Your IQ should be improving, with the things that you have learned this year about diabetes and other health related problems. You also need to be sure you are well rested and not distracted when you take tests.

Thanks a ton for the info! You're right it has been a rather rough year and this week I've had not a lot of sleep so that could be it. I'll try again next week and see what the results are then.

Your IQ should not drop. Maybe You were not concentrating and you are not using your abilities often enough. In other words, you are getting rusty. You need to practice at anything to keep your form at peak potential. Even if you do not, you will never lose it all. It is possible, that whoever administered the test did a poor job, or it was a different test that the one you origionally took. There are several different kinds and they all give different results.

I remember them giving us IQ tests when I was in grade school, and other than as a joke (me and my blonde daughter took one together lol) I have not taken one, at least not seriously. I had a psychology professor in college, that was also in private practice, and he didn't even believe in them, or the ink blot test, etc. I have never had much belief in those either. I don't need some IQ test to tell me how smart I am, nor do I need anyone around me to take one to know there are just some stupid people out there. lol If I were you, I would think about not taking any more, that way you can't be depressed by reaching that -10 LOL
