Do you do anything special on New Years Day or do you celebrate on New Years Eve? Does your family have any traditions that it has stuck with?
when I was a kid we always had a fondue on New Years Eve and if we were good we could stay up to watch the ball drop on television. As I got older my folks would take me out to a dinner play or some such thing.
in my young married life we would have gatherings/parties at our house with games being played, snacks and of course some bubbly to see in the new year.
in my now married life most of these things have lost their thrill for us - we still have young children and should do things for them to remember... my husband is usually too tired to stay up to ring in the new year, we no longer have television to watch the ball drop....
I need to think of something to do with the kids.
New Years day itself is a religious holy day for us so we keep it like we do the Sundays of the year

well actually its my birthday on new years eve.traditionally we would go to parties and have a good time as you do when you are younger.now its just me and my 2 children and we normally just wander down to a place on the waterfront and watch the 9 pm fireworks and then come home and watch the new year fireworks on t.v.if i do not feel like fighting the crowds we can actually see the fireworks from my balcony,so we would have a few party nibbles and just have a good time at home.cheers sue

firewworks on your birthday - how wonderful that is! it sounds like a wonderful tradition to walk to the waterfront with your children... I love fireworks displayed over a body of water where the reflection and glistening is mirrored on the ripples.

I watch the ball drop and have for many years. Its the only tradition that is important to me, as the resolutions don't stick for an entire year. I'm watching a movie while waiting for midnight.

I don't do anything special for New Years.
I'd love to go out or just have a party at home for it.
But I never have the mean or opportunity
to do so.
