I adore sewing! I am currently working on opening my own small online business sellings things I have sewn but I can't tell anyone yet because it is still a secret. However, easy things to make on a sewing machine are sinple cusions, fleece blankets (although the material is somewhat expensive) aprons are simple to make and can be very creative with different materials. I have never made curtains but I can not seem them being very much fo a challenge. You can find somplicity it's so easy or sewing for dummy patterns for different things that would be easy to make. Place matt sets would be fairly easy and sell for about 20$ a set at craft sales. you could always get creative and make your own designed things to sell for profit.

I live on a small island, so I find sewing an extra source of income. My biggest clients are bachelors, cause I hung my sign up in the local laundromat! With the price of jeans, nowadays, I do a lot of patching (believe it or not it can be creative.} I have high-end clients who want slip covers, throw cushion covers, drapes, bed skirts, etc. Lots of downsizing, upsizing. Do make sure you have a good machine. It does not have to be new! My machine is an "Air Electronic SU" by Elna. It is 27 years old! Other than regular tune-ups, it hasn't cost me a dime. And the beauty of this machine is that it is NOT computerized....and does NOT have built in obsolescence! Therefore, if I find a disc that is 40 yrs. old, it will fit, or any disc made today, will fit my 27 yr. old machine. I have family & friends all around me whom have had the computerized machines with nothing buy heartaches. You know the expression,"keep it simple, stupid." By using your ingenuity, you really only need forward, reverse & zigzag. Plse feel to forward questions.

I have a singer. I am not sure of the year but I think it was made in the 1970's. It had orange hippie flowers on it ;) It is not computerized and I love it, it is a sturdy machine and produces excellent work. I had it serviced once and since it works perfectly! Putting a sign in your local laundromat sounds like a wonderful idea! Good thinking!

Well you could always try making up a bunch of little things and going to the flea markets on Sunday's to try to sell them. Here is a link to a craft website that I use, it has a few simple sewing patters, and also patterns for other things, like crochet: http://www.allfreecrafts.com/
