I do check the gist of long posts. Some I do find interesting. If I see it's a very long post, I check the topic and give it a cursory run over to see if it's something that really interests me. If it does, I then read it a little more slowly so that I get in all the details before I respond. But if it doesn't seem very interesting at cursory glance, I give it a miss. Some posts need to be lengthy if they are giving details that are relevant to the discussion but some just ramble on or cut and paste from the net....those are a waste of time.

I think this probably describes my approach as well. I agree, the blah old cut and paste is not for me.

Yes, that what I have noticed and soemtimes I get too judgemental when it comes to this kinds of posts. I was the cut and paste type before but i never tried using again, coz aside form low ratings I got many posts deleted.

i will only read a long posting if it has any interest or has peaked my interest.. if by the first few lines it doesnt grab you and say read me more then no im not going to waste time and read something that i am not interested in... but when you are making a post or reply to that extent it maybe for a reason to get the point you are making across

When I see that it is clearly not your writing. Many ways to tell as most people don't sound like a newspaper I won't even bother reading it. I can understand maybe a brief description of it and then posting the link directly to the story than copying and pasting the whole dang thing out. And another thing is when they are copying and pasting such articles always use quatation and the source it came to. Sometimes copying and pasting is a bad thing and can get you into trouble.

I sometimes will read a longer post if it interests me. But what is a long post? More than a few sentences? Sometimes, it takes much more writing to explain a situation. I agree, it is easier to read shorter posts and that you only have so much time to spend doing this.

Well mylot love quality posts than quantity, thats why people think that posting too long posts can be for them and could make them earn big here, so I cant blame them for making too long posts, or maybe they are just so emotional and wanted to express in words what they feel, i have also notice that mylot has become a confession area and a therapy to many.

No I don't. I don't have the attention span to read long posts. If it's more than two 5 sentence paragraphs I pass it. I especially hate when people type something and it's one long paragraph without any separation. Those are too hard to read.

Well, maybe you have to check those posts which are wrth reading even if they are a bit longer. I dont think its the number of sentences that you decide to respond to that discussion. I hope you have a nice day and happy mylotting.

You have the right to your own opinion. I look for topics that interest me regardless of length.

hello robert, yes we have the right to do whatever we want here on mylot and we also have individual differences when it comes to discussions.

usually if there are long posts which seem to drag on and on and on for ages I usually read about half and then comment on it, they usually actually do a pretty good job of explaining it in that half than they do in the other part which is just the unnecessary part of the rambling.

Wow, i think im just th one doing it here on mylot. Sometimes i just read the comments of others and then I just make my comments there.

I would rather read a well-written long post about an interesting topic rather than some short post about something stupid. Unfortunately there is a prevalence of the latter on myLot so it seems most people feel the way that you do.

Of course i read those well written posts and we can tell by the way it is being presented, well may be its prevalent here in mylot coz there are also lots of mylotters who cut and paste just for the earnings sake and not really an original one. I can sense that here and I dont spend time reading those coz I know their motive.

It really depends on how interesting the topic is.If its interesting I'll go ahead and read if I have the time.If its really boring I will definitely go to the next discussion.

Thats saving time and effort,it pays to read it when its worth reading and sometimes if would fit our mindset and our way of thinking as well.

If the topic is interesting and the response is written well I go ahead and read it. If it is just ramblings or looks like the writer is just trying to improve his word count (sometimes very obvious) I just skip it!

Word count, is that the one that matters here on mylot. I never knew that there were number of words required for us to earn here on mylot. And if theres a word count, what do you think would be the best number of word which allows us to earn more here on mylot? I hope you can share this with me and to many mylotters. have a nice day and happy mylotting!

I actually do read long post depending on the topic, that is, it must be something that really interests me or I see helpful or informative to read. I am here to learn something too, so i dont mind reading long and quality post when the mood takes me. :-)

It depends on the post. I read almost all of all my friend's posts. I do tend to post longish posts because I tend to tell a story in my post. For example, if I've done something interesting during the day, I want to tell about it. This generally takes more than a few lines. Is it possible that you don't care to struggle with the language and that is why you don't care to read longer posts? If so, perhaps you should try to read them anyway, they might be more interesting than you first believe.

Thats ok my friend as long as its not cut and paste from other sites then surely its a post worth reading, we can tell if its not made by the person coz it would be very obvious.

Sometimes I reply to them, sometimes I don't. It depends on if any of it catches my attention (like the subject line) and/or if I have time to read and respond to it. I've been known to post long discussions. I don't always mean to make them as long as I do, but by the time I finish writing it out it sometimes comes out longer than expected. I certainly don't mean to bore you or anyone else on here. :P It's your choice to skip over it, just as it is my choice to post/reply to these. Though, you never know what you may be missing out, when passing these discussions up.

Its really subjective, it depends on the person but for what I have received from this discussion, many would skip if its really not worth reading or if its really not interesting for them. SO the botom line is the gist of the posts, be it long or short as long as it s interesting enough then thats it. have a nice day to you my friend.

If the post catches my attention as well as my interest then I will have a go at it.But if after reading a few lines i find out to be not so interesting then I will leave the discussion in the middle. This I have done few times here.I wish people post discussions that are precise and to the point and not just to draw attention of other mylotters.

very true, its ammter of being creative and precise and simple, it does not have to be too novel like to draw so much attention. Sometimes telling a story here on mylot could be possible as long as it wont take so much of our time here.

Hi Zelly, As for me, it all deoends on my mood and time. If I am kinda happy and have enough time I take the trouble to read through the whole post. And lemme tell you, sometimes its worth the trouble, you never know what thing's gonna come in that. *giggles* But otherwise, I try to skip or keep it for later. For my friends I always try to respond to, irrespective of the length. Thanks.

I'm like you. I'll use the excuse that my attention span is very short! LOL. I just have a short amount of time here, so yes, I tend to pass by the discussions that seem to go on and on. I quit reading and go to the next one.

For me it depends on how well it was written. I find other long posts in here quite interesting that is why I usually respond to it. But its true I generally avoid long posts in here if they could not get my attention reading it.

Yes , there are good long posts but there are ones that you can really say that its copy and paste and not really worht reading it. I did it before and I dont think i will ever do it again.

I read reguardless of length. I have noticed plenty of people do not and others only skim. Then there are a few that'll take out a couple of parts in the long post and attempt to form something out of it, while missing the entire point of the post. So no matter how its sliced, I get it, I know, the long posts don't get attention from people.

Thats the problem when its also not an original creation of the poster, I know it coz I have been there and I have changed my mylotting styles here from the time that I received a negative reaction from a co mylotter. It felt bad but it was worth it coz I never tried cutting and pasting jsut for earnings sake.

It actually depends if I have time and if the topic is really interesting. I enjoy reading posts as long as I can relate to the topic and I feel like I am learning something new.

yes it would greatly affect, but for me there are really mylotters that have long posts and the ones i know are the ones that really make their own posts and with their way of posting I read it when I see that its them coz I know its worth reading it. To some I just skip and find other topics where I can relate.
