Auto Insurance That Covers Pets

I think it's a great idea that one of the leading insurers has come up with-insuring your pets when they are traveling in your car. I don't have any statistics on the subject, but I would imagine that pets are sometimes injured along with humans in auto accidents. From everything that I've heard, it costs a pretty penny to get vet services these days. What do you think of this idea? I know that many of you do have pets, and take them along for the occasional ride.

I think it is a great idea also. We were robbed 9 years ago and my insurance compnay would not cover my $800.00 Pomeranian that got stolen. We bought him through a pet center in the mall and we owed alot of money for him. We missed him more than anything, but still had to pay for him for someone else to have, which is completely unfair. I do take my new Pomeranian dog bye bye with me and it is good to know that he is covered also. I want to buy him a new car seat to ride in also that has a seat belt.

I'm glad you were able to get another Pomeranian, stephcjh. I am sure that even a partial amount of the cost of replacing a pet would be appreciated.

Yes, me too. I miss my other Pomeranian badly but I bought another one that looks just like the one I had. I just think it is so unfair that we lost a family member, "my dog", and still had to pay the rest of the price for him.

I think it is a great idea. There are so many families where the "kids" are pets not children.

You are absolutely right, sarah! Many people consider their pets to be their kids.

The insurance company that you mention, covers the pets for free and it is a nice thought. They don't give you too much coverage though - only $500.

Hey, sedel, it might not be much, but it beats a blank, lol.

I do think it's a good idea. Although when I go anywhere I don't take the dog with me. On the other hand, my husband takes him wherever he goes except to work. I've seen my husband driving with the dog on his lap and in my opinion that's a big no no.
I took our dog to the vet in November for what turned out to be bronchitis. The bill was well over $200. That's pretty high. Would be nice if there was a way to incorporate pet accident insurance along with pet health insurance and sell as a package deal. I'd have an interest.

I'm sure that idea would go over big with a lot of people, carolbee, but it is unlikely so long as they view pets as property.

Well, sigma, I believe they DO, in fact, have seats for pets, if you can wrap your mind around that, lol.

I've noticed that commercial on tv and think it's about time someone did that. Way back when I drove and had a dog I would take him on rides or visiting and always worried about what would happen if I were to get into an accident.

Sure, ctry, like I said, your pets are your loved ones just like family.

This will be the first step to making it law for animals to be secured in a vehicle, I live in the bush and for just around town Lucy is my constant companion with her head out the window feeling the breeze in her face. I'd hate to have to put her in a seat belt. They have health insurance for dogs now too and burial services. Pets I feel, are seen as a good way of extracting money from people by laying a guilt trip on them. Vets services and fees have risen an incredible amoutn over the last 20 years or so.

MY session was about to drop out and I didn't say this bit.
I'm my own insurance. I keep money in the bank for accidents and doctor and vet bills. It isn't hard to do now that I'm not smoking and I've needed to use it a few times now. Thank goodness I have that money put aside.
