Do you own a slowcooker. I had an old one that was tall and I used it a lot, but I wanted one of the ones that were oval. I got one for Christmas. It is the best gift I received. The reason I say that is because it saves me a lot of time so I can spend more time on the computer. I just now have put in two rib eye steaks with onions and green peppers and garlic and other seasonings and I poured over all that, a big can of tomatoes. I set it on high so it will only take about 4 hours to cook and will be ready at supper time when my hubby gets home from work. All I have to do is make some mashed potatoes and I have a salad all ready, from left overs from yesterday, and voila, supper is ready. It is so convienant to have a slowcooker. I love it. I make all kinds of things in it, including chicken, soup, stews, chili, whatever. I have used it so many times since christmas that it has paid for itself already, in time that I have saved. How about you, do you have one and do you use it often? Do you love it as much as I do?

I got one of the oval ones for Christmas too. My old garage sale special was finally wearing out, so it was time for a replacement. The oval one is the 6.5 quart size and I also have a smaller 2 quart one. The large one gets used for huge batches of beans, chili or soups. The smaller one is used for heating leftovers from the freezer. When I make the big batches, I package them up in sizes just right for two of us and freeze them. To prepare the freezer leftovers, I just drop the frozen block of stuff right into the small slow cooker and add a little bit of water.

Wow, would never have thought of using it for frozen stuff. How long does it take to thaw/cook that way? I might have to try that! (Every time I see your little feet, I keep wanting to say your name here, LOL)

I'm not sure exactly, maybe a couple of hours? It's a lot faster than thawing in warm water, that's for sure. I usually dump the frozen block into the crock around 5pm and it's always done by the time we sit down to eat at 7:30ish. Never checked in on it to see at what point it's ready though. Timing might depend on the size of frozen block and how hot your slow cooker runs. I'm usually putting in a 4 cup iceblock and using a 2 quart slow cooker that tends to run hot.

I have one of the originals, and I love it. I like to cook a chicken in it for making soup, and I love to make stew. I have not used it much recently because there are now just the two of us, and my husband lives to buy pork rather than beef. I was thinking of making minestrone in it sometime as soon as I find a recipe. that rib eye steak sounds good. I should make some chili in it, all I need is to get some hot peppers and beans. I already have the beef and tomatoes and the chili.

i don't own one but I've been toying with the idea for some time. I work so i've been thinking that i could plonk in a whole bunch of vegetables in the morning and set it on slow. so by the time i get home from work there'll be a fantastic smelling one dish cooked meal waiting for me! and with all it's home cooked goodness and no busy cooking and slicing after a hard day at the office. thanks for reminding me!

I have two of them. LOL I keep a broth or marinera going in one and use the other to cook meals or beans. I haven't always had two. My brother got me one for Christmas a couple of years ago and my husband blurted out "what are you going to do with two?" right in front of my brother. I told him that I was glad to have another because now I can make broth and dinner at the same time.

My slow cooker would be one of the things I'd hate to do without. I have developed a terrible habit of burning things otherwise because I get busy doing other things and forget there's something cooking on the stove! The slow cooker has saved many a meal, I'm sure.

Yesterday when me and my spouse for grocery shopping, I brought him to the electrical goods where we check a slow cooker there. I really want to have one as I remember when I was kid, my mom loves to use her slow cooker. My spouse agree with me that we will buy a slow cooker soon as he said it is good for us to have it so that I can save my time in kitchen preparing our food. I am sure when we have one, I can make a prefect Pakistani rice dishes which cooked together with the lamb, beef or chicken in side.

I don't have a slow cooker but I love my rice cooker because I can steam vegetables the same time I cook rice. We got it at a liquidation store and I love it.

Yummy!!i love my slowcooker. On a busy day all i need to do is stick some veggies and meat, like chicken cubed or beef and have a stew and lots of other yummy dishes to make also. Its so easy and saves alot of time, rather than standing in the kitchen for awhile/hour or so watching the stuff so it doesnt burn or waiting for it to be done.It smells good too when the food is cooking in it.I slacked off abit from using it,i dont really know why,but since this discussion reminded me i do have one,i will start back up again with it.Im kind of busy lately alot and have a hard time to keep track of what to cook for supper and sometimes passing through the supper hour, this way i just let the cooker do it for me.:)Mmmm!I can smell my potroast for tomorrow cooking, hehehe!! Peanutjar:)
