I'm wondering how many, if any, ppl here have been on a talk show and what the show was about? Which talk show was it? Did it have a positive impression on you or was a horrible mistake? If you've never been on one and you got the chance, what do you think it would be about? Which is your favorite topics on the talk shows? Is there any that you don't like?
I've never been on one but I think if I ever was it would be about fighting siblings. My oldest Brother and I have had terrible fights in the past. He's thrown steak knives at me and I've set fire to his bed while he was sleeping in it :)
I used to watch Jerry Springer off and on just b/c I think it's so insane. My favorites were the women that would come on fighting over a man. Usually he was the husband or b/f of one woman and cheating with the other woman. They'd fight like crazy for him and I'd sit there wondering WHY????? I mean if he cheated on the wife or g/f then why would she want him back especially after bringing her on National TV to tell her this and then the one he was cheating with I'd wonder why would she want him, if he cheated once then he'll do it again.
Some ppl say it's all staged and make believe and maybe it is...I don't know but I'd be d*mned if I'd ever get on National TV and air my dirty laundry like that and if Hubby ever suggested we go on it he wouldn't make it to the show alive LOL
So, what about you?

You must have made this discussion just for me lol. I was on a talk show back in 2001. I was on Maury for his famous paternity test show. I went on there because my children's father had been listening to everyone else but me about my son and he didn't believe he was his. One day we were arguing, and he wanted to throw in that Dominic wasn't his. At this point I was very tired of him saying it, so I yelled "If you say that one more time, I'm calling Maury!" He goes "Go ahead, call him, I don't care!" Now, I'm not one to pull any punches, so as soon as he left, I called. I gave them the story and they called him the next day. He came back to me and said "I didn't know you was gonna call them for real!" Don't play with me.
It took about two weeks for everything to go through. Other than they'd have you believe, unless you are going on the show to tell the prospective father that he may not be, they do the testing at a remote site in the person's hometown before you go to the show. They had a car come pick us up for the testing, and bring us back to the house. This was about a week before we went.
They also had a car come and get us from the house to take us to the airport, and another that met us at LaGuardia airport in New York to take us to the hotel. I felt like a star. I had a self-conscious thing about a missing tooth. They told me it wouldn't show, and they were right, but I still wanted something done about it. So they took me to a cosmetic dentist and had some dentures made for me. (It was only one tooth, so I called it a denture lol) They made sure I was comfortable during my stay in New York.
The day came for us to do the show. I was more excited than nervous, because I knew that he was the father before I ever went. (Ah, the certainty that comes with not messing around, wonderful) They did my hair and makeup, and gave me some clothes to wear. To this day I am still mad I couldn't bring the pants they gave me home. They were leather and fit so right. But they wouldn't give them to me, and my bags were locked away in a closet so I couldn't sneak them off either *sigh* I miss those pants.
Anyway, I was kept in a green room with three other girls that were there for the same show. There was one there I so admired for her courage. She didn't know who her child's father was, but instead of trying to pin it on who she thought was, she brought both of the guys who were possible to be the father. We sat and traded stories, while the producers were running in and out, making sure we had everything we needed. The babies were taken to another room with a few nannies so we didn't have to look over them as well. Finally one of the producers came back into the green room to tell us that they were about to start taping. We had been asking who was going to be on first, and no one knew, so when the producer said that, I was quick to ask who was going first. The producer replied, "Well it really doesn't matter who goes on first because we tape the show in segments, and you guys may not even end up on the same show, but Kenya, you're first." I felt about two seconds of amped excitement, but I calmed down quickly. I was going to show my baby's daddy once and for all that he was the father.
Maury's studio looks a lot bigger on tv than it actually is. Its only a little bigger than the average living room. And Maury isn't as talkative as he seems either, he's a person that loves to ask questions and then listen, I like that. Once I got out there he asked me my story, and I gave it, and then he showed the video that Marcus had made. He threw out some hits, saying that I was promiscuous, but not the nice way. Maury looked at me like he thought I was going to explode, but I kept it calm, I knew what I had done and WHO I had done, so this didn't phase me a bit. He called him out, and he told his side of the story, embellishments and lies included. I proceeded to make him look silly. Then that was the end of our first segment.
Another inside fact, usually when they say 24hrs later, its more like 15 minutes. They sent us in back to change clothes for the next segment, while everyone else had theirs. Now it was time for the results. I don't know why, but I got nervous for a hot second, even though I knew I hadn't been with anyone else. I guess I thought that it would be a whole other kettle of fish if the testing service made a mistake. But, as I already knew, Maury read it out loud and clear "Marcus, you ARE the father." Now it was my time to clown. I embarrassed him as much as I could, because it was his doing that brought us to the show in the first place.
I have to say I had a lot of fun, and I would love to have that tape of the show!!!

Yea, I wouldn't get on a show and discuss my personal life, it would have to be something else more public!

I think the way you do. I used to watch Jerry Springer too, and couldn't believe the people that would get on that show and tell all. I do think some of it was staged but not all. Them people where nuts. I have never wanted to be on a talk show. I used to tease my family and say I was calling Jerry up. One of the better shows is Montel, he is a really good man. He shows real emotion and real people on his show. I can't stand Dr. Phil, I don't like him one bit. He is rude and mean to people. People come to his show for help and he degrades them. I do know some people that really like him. I have only watched a few of his shows, he just irritates me.

I am more the Dr. Phil type person, as far as watching, and I am like you, there is no way I would go talk about my personal life on television. I know that one reason I like Dr. Phil is that he sounds like (and thinks like) my brother. I get along great with my brother, by the way. I could be on a talk show about women who sabotage their own success, or who are afraid of expectations if they succeed, or something goofy like that.

I am not sure if it is staged or not.
No, I haven't been on one and don't intend to.
But, like you. I would never get on national
television to discuss personal, private family
matters.
They all must get paid for that..but, still...

I've never been on a talk show and never would be. I lead a very uneventful life and I like it that way. I think people who have problems shouldn't go and put it out for all too see, especially the really weird mental problems and morally wrong issues.
Then again there is the talk shows, like Dr. Phil, Montel Williams and Oprah who really do great things. They actually try to help their guests. The viewers, more often than not, learn something from the shows.

I wouldn't want to be on a talk show unless I was in the audience. LOL I used to watch Jerry Springer sometimes too because I would laugh at some of those people. It was just too crazy sometimes. Somebody in my husband's family was on a talk show...Maury or Montel or something...I can't really remember. But it was about the dad's dating girls their kids' age or younger. I guess the kids were mad about it or something.

I was suppose to be on the Dr. Phil show but at the last minute my son-in-law would not allow my daughter to take part and air her dirty laundry infront of the TV world.

No, that is not for me...I am a more private person. I look at some of the people and there and don't understand how they can do it. I see the women with the babies and the father who deny it and you have to figure that these people feel pretty strongly to go on there and they all must feel they are right. It must be tough to find out in front of so many people that you are wrong.

Have you been reading my mind? This is a discussion I had been planning once I got caught up a bit on everything I have missed lol I guess I have watched so many talk shows whilst I have been ill I must have seen almost every one ever recorded! Like you I find them fascinating but have never appeared on one - and can never imagine doing so. If I had to I guess it would be to confront my biological father on why he abandoned me or to try and sort out my son - he's 14 , need I elaborate???? xxxx

If something so tramatic happened to me that I thought it might help someone else if I talked about it I might be on a talk show. I think I would like to be on Oprah or Dr. Phil some show with class instead of something like jerry.

Wow You and your brother know how to fight!
Once about 7 years ago I had Sally Jessy Rapheal willing to send me out there for a paternity test. My sister called her because the father was questioning my son. But the father refused to go on the show or do the test.

I have never been on a talk show or game show at all..If i had my choice i would rather be on a game show,i think it would be a lot more fun..I would never go on Jerry Springer if they paid my way free, and paid me and gave me prizes..HAHA..I could never get out there and make a fool of myself on public television...I think all those people on there remind me of trash,i mean who would actually do that and air their private life on tv, and if my husband was running around and had a g/f he would not last with me long enough to go on Jerry..I sometimes feel those people do all that trash for money, surely there is not that many tacky people do you think? I mean i have more respect for myself...
