I have a one handed gate on my 2 year olds room. I put him in there for nap time he gets out of bed and climbs over his gate. I try to get him to stay in there and take a nap he won't, I try to rock him he just wants to play, He is very hard headed. There is nothing that I have done that will keep him in bed, and when he gets out of bed all he does is yell "I had a good nap Mommy" knowing that he didn't even take a nap. How do I keep him in bed without strapping him down?

My two year old doesn't take a nap. He usually sleeps from 9 or 10 at night to 9:30 or 10 in the morning. If he gets up early than he will usually take a nap. Sometimes to get mine to stay in bed I will lay down with him till he falls asleep which is about 5 minutes. Then I get up and do what I have to do.

My son goes to sleep between 8:30 and 9 and gets up at 7:00. If I lay down with him he just plays with my hair or pokes me in the eye. But if he doesn't take a nap he gets really whinny about 5 until bedtime. I just can't get him to take a nap.

I remember those days!! I had a time with my son trying to get him to nap. I took myself to the health food store and got some children safe sleepy time tea,and some chamomile and lavender baby bath...about an hour before nap time he got the tea, which can only be given as directed!!, and about 25-30 minutes before nap time he got a nice warm relaxing bath..and he would be out like a light when we layed down together. It takes time away from chores or other things to be done, but it is worth it!! Try it...but before you try any teas or herbs consult your pediatrician to be sure there isn't any allergies you should be aware of..Hope this helps...

Have you tried setting up a routine for him like he would have at bedtime? Putting him down the same time very day, reading story to him...usually if you can find something that will keep a kids attention for a few minutes they will drift off.
