I started to cut back on salt, about 6 months ago to help lose weight.I started using more fresh herbs for flavor, and I don't miss it at all! I notice though, when I am eating out, even the smallest amount of salt I consume has me swelled up by the time I get home.I can't omit salts altogether, especially if I don't know it's in the food to begin with...I am just wondering is this a normal reaction to salt after cutting back, and should I gradually add back a little so it doesn't shock my body so much? I never reacted this way before, or is it that I am just paying more attention ?? My doctor says drink more water, but it hasn't made a difference the times I eat out.Confused...HELP!! :)

u can use mrs dash products for your foods. giving in to temptation to salt would decrease years from your life. u cutting back on salt will add years to your life. you are right for using substitutes. your heart will thank you later on. it will decrease the damage that salt has already done to your heart. you will have a low high blood pressure. U have to be more choosy when picking what meals you want when eating out. if you don't trust it, don't get it. if u want more control over what you eat. you should cook your own foods. that way you know whats in it. you will have piece of mind. i would like to make a suggestion if I may: what dont you try the different seasonings by mrs. Dash. i have heard good things about it. hope this helps you. have a good day

Consuming too much salt will not only pile up the weight, but also harm to the heart and liver in long term. So it is wise to bring down the consuming dose of salt by all means. But at the beginning, it is not easy for a person who used to take salt to take less. So you need to reduce the amount of taking gradually and steadily. If you eat out, it is better requesting less or no salt; otherwise the chef will put salt in the food. To be honest, we don’t eat salt at home. The substitute is vegetable powder. When we eat out, we will go to our favorite restaurants and always request the waitress not to put or much salt. And most of the time, we are happy with our meal. Hope you can give it a try.

Actually you are paying more attention and no I would not suggest adding it slowly back into yur diet. I also found that by reducing my intake of processed foods loaded with BHT, chemicals I can't even pronounce are what keeps people bigger than what they are supposed to be. I eliminated white refined sugar also and replaced it with brown raw cane sugar and the weight just came off. Of course I suffer from an ovarian cyst which made ingesting high fatty foods, an impossibility. I also am AB+ therefore what I eat is determined by what I can metabolize properly.
