Have You Ever Had Problems With Your Eyesight?

I had cataracts in both eyes when I was 48 years of age and had to have cataract removal. My cataracts returned and I had to have laser surgery to have them removed a second time. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I'm sorry to hear that you think your eyes have gotten worse. Please get them checked if you feel this is the case. I don't think anything is harder on your eyes than wearing a prescription that isn't the correct one for you. Thanks for responding!

Well, I don't know if this is a problem with my eyes or my contacts, but I wear daily wear contacts that are supposed to be taken off when I go to bed, but I never take them off. When my parents came to visit my college, though, and we stayed at a hotel, I had to take them off that night because they'd freak out if they found out I never did. Anyways, when I put on the same contacts the next morning after letting them sit in the solution, they lost power and never recovered to the previous state. I'm wearing a new pair right now, but they still don't have the same power as I'm used to. I hope it's not because of an eye infection or something. I'd rather think my contacts were the problem than permanent damage to my eyesight.

I agree...I sure hope your eyes are okay but please have them checked if your eyesight seems to have gotten worse. Our eyesight is one of the most valuable things we have! When my eyesight went from 20/20 to 20/70 inside of 3 months, I was horrified and afraid I'd never see again.

I don't have trouble with my eyesight, but I was born with tiny cataracts in each eye. If you look really really close, you can see a tiny white speck in the middle of each eye.

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone else having them, either. I hope my eyesight doesn't get worse, either! Thanks

i used to hhave to wear glasses becuase my left eye was "lazy", but i eventually just got sick of the routine of putting them on, taking htem off for certain events, and having to get them fixed. i eventaully just stopped wearing them also because they never improved my eyesite at all after 2 years of use.

Has your eyesight gotten any worse through lack of use? I know several who stopped wearing glasses that were supposed to wear them and their eyes worsened considerably. Thanks for your response!

It is very common to need glasses as we age. Regular eye tests will ensure that if and when you do need glasses, that you will spare your eyesight. Thanks for your response.

Natural aging here (50) but also diabetes has impacted my sight. I can tell the night blindness, the fuzziness with vision is more than it was even a few years ago. Some would call that age, but I know it is more a result of blood sugar control issues. I am sorry to hear of your need for cataracts surgery. I hope everything is fine now.

My eyesight is actually fairly good. Except, only one eye is "turned on". The other eye basically just sees light and that's it. Doctors told me as a kid they could correct amblyopia (lazy eye). But it never happened. I've given up and learned to accept that I'll just have one good eye. I used to have 20/10 vision in my good eye, but I think it has gotten worse over the years. I also have to wear reading glasses sometimes. I've quit wearing glasses all the time though, as eye doctors only give a prescription to the bad eye (which won't turn on and use the glasses anyhow).

I'm 37, a diabetic of 16 yrs and have have just had a "vitreous flush" in one eye, where they remove the eye innards and replace it with saline to rid the retina of blood hemorrhages, and laser surgery in the other eye.

I've worn glasses since I was 14 and actually needed them sooner than that...just didn't realize it. I have always been told I have very healthy eyes when I went for exams. Since being diagnosed with diabetes, I'm very good about having an eye exam each year to see if there are any changes. Only minor changes have occurred so far...and I hope it stays like that. One of my sisters was born with sight in only one eye, and she has had nothing but problems with her good eye. She just recently had the lens in that eye replaced (no idea how they do that), and she could actually see without her glasses for the first time in her life. However, about 6 months later, she got something like a cataract covering the lens and had to have it removed. So far, the doctor has only been able to remove part of it, and she still can't see well enough to read anything. She goes back the end of this month to see if her eye is healed enough for him to continue. It's scary when you only have sight in one eye and have problems.

my eye problem started when I was a child, I was soppose to wear them all the time and my eye's would have corrected. However I was one of those kids who just didn't want to wear them, so I didn't. Now my eyes are four times worse and I will never get rid of the glasses, it really sucks and my son keeps breaking them

I think you are one of the many who did the same thing as a child. I'm sorry that your eyes are so much worse and even sorrier that your little one breaks them on you! Thanks for your response!

Do you have problems seeing without your glasses? Your eyesight may have improved and that's why you're not needing to wear them. Thanks for your response!

I currently have eyesight problems and it is because of my diabetes... I have blurred vision and although I can read to be able to drive and watch TV, I need glasses that magnify to be able to read small type like on my computer... I always use larger font when I write email and I have asked many times for my friends to use larger type so I can read it ok, but no one ever remembers to use larger font...

I have just had cataracts removed from both eyes, and have just started a discussion on the subject. I've had the lenses replaced, so I hope I don't have the same problem as you. Best wishes for the future.
