As many of my friends here know, I'm primarily a photographer (also writer, artist..blah..blah..blah). The vast majority of my photographic work is on either 35mm slides or black and white negatives. And yes, I still use my 35mm film camera, but do hope to get a digital camera one day. To transform my images of my slides I do have a multi-purpose scanner which gives me the ability to scan my slides to digitize the images, so no worries there. But alas, all this time I've been a bit downhearted about my black and white negatives...yes, I do have many of my black and white work printed up, but naturally not all (I ONLY have about 15,000 images...hehe). To be honest I just haven't had the funds to get darkroom supplies to develop my prints...So it's been driving me completely batty not being able to print up my work... Now I knew my scanner did have the capability to scan negatives..BUT color. I'm thinking to myself, well gee, if it can scan color negatives, why not black and white? One time I did putz around and tried to scan the negatives but nothing happened....UNTIL TONIGHT!! I guess it pays to be stubborn and not feel defeated...LOL So I had done a discussion about knowing a celebrity and finding out he/she had passed away...this had to do with Native American actor Rino Thunder....I had taken scores of photos back in the late 1970s of a lot of Native American people..all in black and white....So I did so much want to be able to show off one of his photos I had taken of him back in the 1970s...AND NOW I FOUND THE WAY TO DO IT...YIPEEEEEEEEE!So without further ado...here's one of his photos I had taken....And now I'm doing a happy dance as this opens a whole new world for me....I won't be tied to waiting to get darkroom supplies to print up my black and white photos...heehee...I can do it all through the magic of my scanner, photoshop and the computer... Okay...have any of you discovered something new to do with your computer, scanner, whatever--- that you didn't think you could do before? Did it make you feel like dancing???

hey Pye that is awesome. As handy as I am with computers, printers, scanners and the whole printing process intimidate me. I might not have anything new I have done with mine, but I sure as heck can dance with you because you did! Fantastic picture by the way.

Yee-ha! I'm dancing along with you pye just cuz I'm so happy you found a way. I've got a heady feeling. Wow and woo-hoo and why can't I put an image on a response? I've got one that's perfect for this occasion. As far as personal discovery of excitement -- I'm wracking my brain and nothing is coming through. Thanks for sharing your achievement!

Oh that is a superb photo, you are very luck to still have it, I read where a lot of valuable pics will be lost because of the digital camera, people are too eager to delete a pic when it is not the best shot and some of these pics could be good in the future for various reasons, eg backgrounds and other things... that really is a good pic.

Here's a much better photo..hehe...Those negatives of mine are about 30 years old! I've kept them in archival negative holders to preserve them--maybe having negatives/slides isn't such a bad thing right? As you say it's easier to lose a digital image if one deletes it by mistake

Are you scanning all photos? I remember long days in darkroom. I used to to all of my black and white prints. All sizes. It was fun. Your scanner should give you an option to scan black and white negatives, right? I am glad you find out how.

LOL..no I'm not going to scan all my photos..they're not all prize winners..hehe Ah yes those days in the darkroom...the smell of Dektol, Stop Bath and Fixer still cling to me I think...still would love to print the old way sometime though. I "accidentally" discovered how to scan my black and white negatives..persistence pays off.

hmmm....now you have me wondering....I have a scanner...do you think it can scan slides? They are just like negatives only they are in color? Maybe I should give it a try huh? I have a box of slides from when my kids were small and growing up and I would do a happy dance if I could copy those!

Unfortunately you do have to have a scanner that can specifically scan slides...if your scanner came with a holder to place slides in it then yes you can scan slides--my scanner is a i800 Microtek...which was pretty expensive but I saw it as an investment as I knew I needed one to scan slides

Have you found out what is wrong with your printer yet? I was having trouble with mine for awhile too, and I was annoyed cause I too, had also just gotten ink. Found out for some reason the back of the printer wasn't secure in enough, just had to push it back in, and began printing again

That does sound like a great feature, particularly for you. I have a digital and have been playing with printing out some of my photos but can only do 8 X 10s I would like to be able to do larger pictures.

I get a kick out of finding a really neat website I haven't seen before. I'm tickled to hear you have found a way to scan your photos, though. I know that means a lot to you!

Sometimes good old persistence pays off, never consider it being stubborn that sounds so blase...lol. Persistent is a much more positive way of thinking. I am glad you have found a way to do what you want to do i must open a new highway for you. Enjoy your new avenue and have fun.

I wish you had mentioned this before Pye, all I do is black&white and Sepia any more. I got tired of color. Everybody does color. I don't have room for my developer in my tiny apt. so I have all that stuff in storage at a friends and cannot get to it. I do everything by scanner and computer now. There are endless possibilities. I am glad that you are on the road to discovery. It is a blast isn't it? Shalom

It most certainly is a blast...I couldn't wait to get out of bed today thinking of all the fun I can have now...gee, doesn't take much to get me happy...hehee I take it you're a fan of Ansel Adams?? One time when I had done some black and white photos of a neighbor's grand-daughter, the jerk brother-in-law wasn't too impressed that the photos were in black and white...then I told him that the famous photographer Ansel Adams (now deceased) was able to get a minimum of $5,000 for just one of his prints when he was alive...he quickly shut up--LOL

That is cool. Never knew you were so talented. Do you still do Photography? I want to know how to make a music montage. We do fireworks every year for the 4th and I want to be about to edit songs to make a really cool presentation. I will let you know if I can do it.

Thank you badkat...I've been photographing practically all my life..when I was a kid I used to borrow my mom's classic Kodak Brownie camera...it wasn't until 1977 that I got my 35mm Nikon camera...uh, the one I STILL use believe it or not and works fine. I've kind of puttered around with DVD photo montages set to music...hehe..and want to do more myself

I think that every new thing we learn with all the technology at our disposal is worthy of a celebration, pyewacket, so, congratulations! I was so looking forward to viewing a photo of Rino Thunder, and I'm happy that you were able to make it possible. You mentioned that he appeared in the Wolfen movie(one of my favorites). I suppose I will be doing a happy dance if I ever master the html business. I never give up, though.

I first remember seeing Rino Thunder in Miracle in the Wilderness--a movie that came out on TNT cable network..it had Kris Kristoffeson and Kim Catrell in it...Mmmmmm...HTML..I know a little of that but not enough to write out a whole webpage of the codes...and yikes...CSS and Java is fun...NOT
