What is your typing speed? Have you use software to enhance typing speed?

We all know that in using internet, we should also know how to type.If we know how to type and we can type fast, it would be of great advantage, especially here in forums. You can save time. Way back my college days, I used to practice typing in a software called Mavis Beacon. I consumed about half a year to enhance my typing skills. And now I can type fast, but not so fast. I think my typing speed is 50 words per minute. How about you guys?

I can type easily 420 characters a minute, that's nearly seven characters in a second :) Well, It is hard to believe even for me but I used a program to measure it. There were many faster ones though. It is definetely a good advantage to type fast. Not looking at the keyboard gives you more chance to see what you are typing :)

I don't know if I do type fast enough and see how many words that I have typed are right but, I did try out softwares that enhanced my typing speed. One of them is called Typing Master (yeah, I know, what a name..) I think I was only able to type 40 correct words in its first typing tests..

I can type about 100 words a minute on the computer and about 50 on a manual. That is if I do not keep track of my errors. So if I discount the errors that would be between 40 and 75 words per minute and a little less considering I am slightly dyslexic = I tend to reverse letters and I need glasses to see the fine print. However I have not taken a typing test for years and cannot verify this fact. I learned the last couple of years in high school, and we had these old Royal and Underwood Typewriters. We were just getting the IBM electronic ones but only the best girls got them -you know, blond, hair never out of place, tall and slim.

I'm not sure what my typing speed is. I had a year of typing in high school but never mastered typing without looking at the keys. I am a fairly quick typer even though I must look at the keyboard while typing.

ouch - Corporal tunnel syndrome forces me to take shortcuts in typing...
I've corporal tunnel syndrome so I'm forced to cheat. That means I use keyboard shortcuts and text speak. The latter means "ttyl" and ":P" and ":" or ":

Well, with practice I am getting better, but I can type at least 52 words a minute but with practice hopefully, I will be able to type 80 words in a minute.

I learnt the basic skills of fingering with the aid of a typing guide book which I borrowed from my friend, instead of using any software. After practicing for sometimes and I could handle the key skillfully without looking at the keyboard, I then did some typing practice daily, so as to improve the typing speed. I find my typing speed have improved rapidly after I have become an active user of mylot. I don’t know exactly how fast I could type per min yet.

It's been a while since I have been timed, but I would say I'm probably at about 70 words per minute. Mine has probably gone down a little bit through the years. When I was in sales, I was more of a pencil pusher. LOL

My top test score was at one time 90 wpm, but now it is undoubtedly less, maybe 60 or 70. Computers with keyboards really hadn't been invented when I learned to type. We didn't even have electric typewriters, but when the keyboards did come into use, already knowing how to type pput me at a distinct advantage. The first computer typing program I knew was Word Drop and I loved that game and did use it to brush up if I had to go for a typing job interview wahy back then. I took quite a few typing jobs to help pay my way through university. I make quite a few more typos now than I did then, though, because eating no longer depends on it, lol.

I don't type with my hands on the right keys, I type totally wrong. I am always told that if I learned to do it the right way that I would be really really fast. I have tried many times to do it the correct way and I just hate it. I had a program but I don't remember what it was. I type fast now and I don't have to look at the keys. I have no idea how many WPM I type though.

I think I picked up my typing skills in middle and high school....I can remember in middle school they would tape a piece of paper on the keyboard and make us put our hands under it so we can't see the letters(so we have to learn how to actually type) In high school they made us do typing practice everyday before we coudl start class(keyboarding class)I think the last time I was timed I could type about 100 words per minute which is really good....now if i could get a faster internet service(or router)I could possibly get more discussions done faster.

60-90 wpm. I learned to touch-type when I was 5. And it's been a key factor in what I do for a living. Never had to work retail or restaurants because I was able to jump right into the office workforce in high school. I learned to type on a Franklin 2000 computer (ANCIENT!). The program was called MasterType. It was a video game format - you had to type letters, numbers and words in order to shoot attacking spaceships. It was pretty cool. Wish I could find it nowadays, cuz even with the basic graphics, the game itself is fun enough to interest my kids. In 5th & 6th grade the computer teachers used me demonstrate typing to all the other classes. In 7th grade they had me test out a new typing software by Mavis Beacon. It was pretty cool. You were a driver in a car and had to type to get your speed up and to remove bugs. Check out current Mavis Beacon software: http://broderbund.com/jump.jsp?itemID=4815&itemType=CATEGORY And here's a free trial of a Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing program- it's older (2005) but it would give you an idea of their style: http://www.download.com/Mavis-Beacon-Teaches-Typing-17-Deluxe/3000-2051_4-10441764.html?tag=lst-1 Another fun typing game is Typer Shark - you can find it on Yahoo Games. There is a Typer Shark deluxe which can be bought and downloaded too. You have to type the words on the sharks and piranhas to zap them. Hope this helps! Tink

I have also tried that Typer Shark deluxe. It is a game. You are going to type the letters that will float and it if you will not able to type the word correctly it will be eaten by shark. It is somewhat addictive but it will help too enhance your typing speed. I have join an online games that has over 500 games, but I prefer to play on word games. You might be interested to find it out. it is Egglad.com

I know that I improve my typing speed since I use computers. Before when I’m just a newbie, I used to use one finger of my hand when typing but not there’s two.. :D No, just joking. I can type without looking on the keyboard sometimes. I experienced using a typing test application online and it was fun. I did perfect some of the paragraph that they would give.

Ha! I just got finished explaining this earlier to the test administration staff at my new school. They were shocked to see that I type so fast. I took the test twice, got a 58wpm on the first, 56wpm on the second. I have no choice but to type fast. Its been bred into me since about the sixth grade. During that school year, Christmas, I got a toy computer from my grandma. It had little cartridges with programs on them, and one of them was a typing program. I started the basics on that. In the seventh grade, I was given Keyboarding 1 as a class. Since I had learned all the basics at home on the toy, it was no problem for me. I breezed right through that course. After that semester, I thought I was done with typing, at least in school. I was wrong. When I went to the ninth grade I looked at my schedule to see that I had been given Keyboarding 1 again. I went to the office to explain to the counselor that I had already taken it in the seventh grade. They told me that this was a different class since I was in a higher grade. Yeah right. Same book, same work. Easy A. Again, I thought I was through with typing in school. Guess again! In the tenth grade, since I had a hole to fill in my schedule, they gave me Keyboarding 1 yet again! I stormed up to the office and pleaded, "Can I at least get Keyboarding 2?!?" No one was teaching it at the time, but since I had passed it, they gave me another course to take. Finally my grief with typing was over. 'Fraid not! Years later when I started College, I got my first schedule, and lo and behold... Keyboarding 1!!! Luckily when you are in College you can test out of courses you feel you are already proficient in. I scheduled a test out date as soon as I possibly could. I finally got to take Keyboarding 2!!! So I have no reason to not be fast on the keyboard. I always type about 45-55wpm. But to let you know, a good program to increase your typing speed is TypingMasterPro. You can get it at http://www.typingmaster.com There is a free version on the site. Some of the lessons are limited in the free version, but there is a typing test on the software that is unlimited use.

I have only a slow typing speed. If I remember it correctly my typing speed is just about 30 plus words per minute. I do not know now if I got faster or slower. I used to use typing tutor and typing master to enhance my typing skills. But know I don't.
