Did you know?

I was reading about pollution and everyday items. Did you know that a typical gas-powered lawn mower puts off as much pollution in one hour as 11 cars? Geeze, perhaps I should dig up my lawn and put down mulch and park benches! We have a huge front and back lawn that hubby has to mow at least twice per week in the summer months. What is a person to do? What are your thoughts on this matter?

Hmmm, perhaps this is a good solution. I am seeing goat's milk and cheese come with the deal. However, what about the methane given off by their 'droppings?' Ha!

Crazynurse you got me there, sooooo I'm thiking you will need to go with plan "B". I'm so glad you ask, "what is plan B ?" Well you need to tell hubby he needs to continue using the same mower, but speed it up a notch. He must run now rather than walk while pushing!!!You really are crazy hehehehehehehe especially if you think this is a solution!!!

I have the solution!!! It's very simple too....mow the lawn less! YAY! I'm very surprised by this..is that a ride on, a two stroke or a 4 stroke? I'll mention it to my 'gardener' and see what he says. Thanks again for some interesting info.

I would have never thought that a lawnmower would give off that much pollution , thats grosse ... How about converting your mower to electric , I know its easier said than done , but there has to be a way ...

I read about this awhile ago and of course was shocked. And it's sad to think that the bigger your property, the longer you'll run the mower and the more you'll put into the environment. That's why it's good I guess to make sure you are doing your part in other ways to help save the environment and not put as much CO2 into the environment.

Maybe with today's technology they can soon come out with an electric mower like the hybrid cars that they have come out with. I know in our area they are regulating boat motors because of similar reasons I am sure.

I haven't ever heard that before. I didn't realize that a lawn mower could put out that much air pollution. It has such a little gas tank and motor. You could possibly pull up all of your grass and put down "fake grass" and then you wouldn't have to cut it anymore because it never grows.(I'm sure that your husband wouldn't mind this either) I've wanted to have fake grass for quiet awhile now but just never have gotten any. We have a huge back yard and a smaller front yard and the grass has to be cut once every week or so....so yea I wouldn't mind having fake grass!

I guess one would have to buy an electric cordless lawn mower...they only cost $380.00.. LOL

I'm afraid we don't have $380 to spare. Darn. Of course, others would argue that having to increase electricity production for all the cordless electric mowers is bad for the environment too. Where does it end?! Perhaps I should take grandma's advice below adn get a goat!

You can buy a electric lawn mower that would help with the pollution.

Have you thought about turning the lawn area into a garden? And/or making it a community garden, and extra production could be turned over to a Food Bank.
