I'm form the province or Cavite, town of Bacoor here in the Philippines. Our town was founded in 1671, where it was said that our town's name came from a certain specie of bamboo tree.
As for our state or what we usually consider as a province here, Cavite is the cradle of Philippine revolution that I believe was first founded during 1614 or just about during those times -I'm not really that sure on my history here!LoL

I though Kansas would be older than that.
Our state of South Australia is 172 years old, in terms of white settlement anyway.

So the white settlement would also mark when it was organized as a political state? I like that we can learn about other countries.

That is the same all over the world. New settlers, greed, and new diseases that natives are not immune to.

Yes, thats correct. South Australia was formed as a State in 1836. It was the first & only free state. Prior to that date, Aboriginals had lived here for 40,000 years. The local Adelaide plains group had 70% to 90& of their numbers wiped out in the first ten years of white settlement (or invasion as they prefer to call it)

Everyone hold your breath, I am going to try to upload a photo of a centennial mural in Pam's state. It will be a picture of my dad, painted from a photo of him as a young Boy Scout. A lady from his church is one of the artists. My dad as he is today is also in the picture.

I have often thought about picking up red "rose rocks" and trying to sell them on e bay. I love the land, much more than the state.LOL

I don't think I've seen the picture of your dad by the mural. I've seen a picture of the mural, but not your dad. He is one handsome devil.
You know I was reading in the paper just a few days ago a wedding announcement. I don't normally read them, but this one caught my eye. This girl stepped into a fairytale it seems. She was born and raised in Oklahoma, met a man at college and fell in love. He was 5 years older and almost ready to become a doctor. He got his degree, took her to Essex with her family, and they got married in his family's gardens. Oh yeah, they had names that even sounded rich. But the point of my little story is that she took a handful of Oklahoma red dirt to put in her shoes, so that when she got married she'd be standing on Oklahoma soil. She must really be into symbolism because it said her shoes were Jimmy Choos. That would cover my rent for a year!

Happy Birthday to your state! Here in Arizona we don't hit our 100th state birthday until Valentine's Day of 2012, a year which some folks believe marks the end of life on the planet. Well, I don't believe that, but if it is true, at least I'm sure we'll make it to our 100th birthday. Of course, ask me in the summer and I'd have to say my state is a little older than yours because California will be 158 this year. We have the Gold Rush to thank for that because the resulting population growth caused rapid expansion in every direction.

So do you live in Arizona in the winter and California in the summer? Neat.

I live in Mississippi. It was organized as a territory in 1798 and was admitted as the 20th state in 1817. Mississippi was named for the Mississippi River and when translated from Native American folklore, means Father of Waters.
It borders the Gulf of Mexico and is known for its hurricanes.

My daughter honeymooned near where the Mississippi begins. Kansas is a relatively young state.
