If you had to go deaf or blind, whichc would you choose? I find this a very very difficult question because two of the things I love most in life are music and visual art...x0

I'd much rather go deaf than blind. I could still communicate quite easily and live a life on my own. I know those that are blind can do that I just don't know if I would be able to do that myself.

That's a tough one. I would have to say deaf over blind. At least I could still watch music videos, movies and get around. Both would be hard to deal with if you had either sense then lost it.

Deaf, it would be a hardship, but I think I could handle it better than blindness. I even know a little sign language....

It'd be awful to loss either, but I'd rather be deaf than blind. A deaf person can use the computer, drive a car, see their child grow-up. Being blind would so limit the quality of one's life.

I would have to say I would go blind. It is a very hard choice, but I feel like I use a lot of my other senses besides my eyesight, especially with two small children, so I would be able to adapt faster with not being able to see as opposed to not being able to hear. I also love to sing and would not know what to to if suddenly I couldn't have those beautiful singing outbursts that I need every now and again. I know that in a prior discussion I stated that if a singer went deaf, they would still be able to sing on key if they had memorized how each note felt in their throat as I have, but not being able to hear and enjoy it as well I can't picture.

I have worked with both the blind and the deaf. The blind person with hearing will survive a lo better as she/he has not lost his or her means of communication skills. Most deaf people are harder to communicate with This question is academic..Hellen Keller said if she could have one of her faculties back it would be hearing. This way she could judge people by what they said and not how they looked. We prejudge people too much on appearanc and now what the person is saying. Most people don't have a clue until they are deaf, blind or both..and yes there is a difference.

I would say deaf even though I love my music. I don't think I would handle not being able to see things especially into the eyes of people I love.

i'll choose deaf..because u although u r a handicapp but still can look after ur self and be independant, see where u wanna go, things like that and can learn the sign language also, so u can depend n urself with the minumum help from others...but for me blind is a bit difficult, becoz u cant see things,n cant be fully independant, still have to depend on someones esp. parents, siblings, n i dont want to trouble them..yes they can help us..but i dont like the idea of too much depending..not that i say that blind people are depending on someones..but it just if it is happen to me, i'll choose deaf over blind..

id rather be deaf than being blind.. atleast if your deaf you can still see the world, unlike with being blind you can think everything is hopeless.. im a near sighted person and it's difficult.. how much more not seeing at all, right?

Hello megumiart,Tough question, but may be I will choose both when I would have earn enough money to spend the rest of life without any external job, have reached all my targets and fullfill everybodies dreams around me and would like to spend all of my time in meditation and I neither need to hear good or bad nor I will have the urge to see anything new, sounds abnormal ? hahahahahaha

I would never want to choose, but if I had to, I would choose being deaf. Although I would have to be super alert for traffic as a pedestrian, or a burglar entering my apartment, at least I would be able to see to drive, see to walk, see who I fell in love with, see to write, see if my child looks like me....

I would choose being blind. That way I still could sing and play my instruments.

I'd be heartbroken if I lose my sight and hearing. And it's difficult to choose. Eventhough I love music soo much, I think I'd pick my sight over hearing. Because I think I'll be having trouble more when I can't see. And I think, it will be easier for me to recover because I could still communicate thru writing, lip reading, sign language.

I would definately rather be deaf. I have a lot of hearing troubles as it is right now and it affects me but not too negatively. If I was blind I would not be able to drive. I hate transit so this would really suck. Although I wouldn't have to pay for it. I really would not like to loose either. Music is about rhythm. You can still feel it. Visual art you coiuld feel but you wouldn't be able to in most places because the oils in skin ruin art. hehe I'd just invest in some base gear.

I don't know which I would choose, I love love love music and I don't know if I could go without ever listening to music again but then to me vision is more important because then you can see what's going on around you...while you can hear too I would think that it would be better to have vision because you can then watch where your going....and can still watch tv if you had CC on your televison but if you had no vision you could only hear what they were saying and not really see what was going on...so its really a toss up for me!
