people looking for information on other people will sometimes look through garbage to find credit bills, letters, or anything that can tell them about the family that put out the garbage. or sometimes people through out things they consider no longer useful but are still in working order and beneficial to someone else, have you ever picked up something from the garbage, my son brought home a perfectly good bureau (cabinet) one time. Some had thrown it out but we got good use out of it? Have you ever taken something that was thrown out by somebody else?

we put it out on garbage days, the garbage trucks can compress massive things, it took a couch I had even, but if the garbage truck cannot a special truck from the city comes and picks up stuff,

Yes, over the years when my mother and I would go out to garage sales and if she saw something that could use a little touch up that could be of use to us we would pick it up if it was out waiting for the trash person to pick it up. I also set things out so they can be seen in case anyone has use for them and hope they would pick them up before the trash truck come through. If it looked like anyone was home when my mother and I found something she or I would go ask them if it was ok to take and always they said yes. I have even had people come ask me about things thrown away. Now as for going through people's trash, no way ... that in itself just sounds gross to me.

It just come to me the saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure". I have never found any treasure's but that is not what I was looking for. :)

I have lived a very frugal life. My mother did too. When I see useful items that are set outside for trash collection I often slow down for a closer look. If it is something that I feel we can use, I will pick it up. Often times even if the item is not something I can use, it can be spruced up and resold for a pretty penny.

sometimes people do throw out perfectly good furniture and useful things. quite often they set it apart from the normal trash hoping someone will find a use for it. Yes, I have found some good stuff. I do not and never have just gone thru trash...yuck!

Nope, I have not personally taken something from someone else's trash. I know other people who have done this and were very happy with a piece of furniture they took and were able to refinish and use. We threw out many trophies several months ago. The next morning they were all gone. Might have been someone who wanted the silver used on the trophies. Hopefully it was put to good use or made someone some extra money.

It's one thing if someone puts a bureau or something like that on the side of the road with a sign that says "FREE" on it, but if it is IN the garbage, I would not touch it. Every now and then in Guelph we have something where everyone puts something out and people just take it (a special day to do that) or people just out them out with "free" signs on them, but I woudln't touch them if they came FROM the garbage.

I never look through other peoples' trash or garbage. I always rip up all of my bill information or any junk mail I get. I did a paper route for my aunt and uncle once though and spmeone had set their trash out at the curg and there was a working VCR there on top. I took that at the time because I needed one and nothing was wrong with it. It was Christmas and I guess someone got a new one and threw the old one out. that is crazy.

I do not have the habit of rummaging through people's garbage, but I do know that there are many careless people around who would dispose of their confidential information like bills, receipts and charge slips without really thinking if their actions will compromise their security. I always make sure that such documents with my name, address, card numbers and even signatures on them are shredded away and not just thrown into the garbage. You never know who may end up harnessing this information and using these to do unauthorized transactions. I have picked up things that people dispose. Actually it is not rubbish they are throwing away in the dustbins. They usually leave unwanted things near to the recycle bins so that others can take them if they wish. In the past year, I have salvaged 3 CPUs. I have found usable computer memory chips, harddisk drives and CDROM drives in them. In fact, I am still using 2 of the harddisks I have retrieved, for keeping cliparts, graphics materials and some backup files. I recently also picked up several children's books which are in good condition and passed them on to my maid. Sometimes, when I have things I do not need, I also put them downstairs my apartment block for others to take if they can use them. It is better than if I dump them into the garbage bin to be disposed.

yes for what is another mans trash can be another mans treasure. But going thru anothers trash to get information on someone ( NO I will not do that for it is wrong). I have found papers that belonged to someone that they did not know got throwed away and after I contacted them to let them know I found them.I returned them to the rightful owners and they were very happy to get then back as they were very important papers that they thought they had lost. I found them in a drawer of a dresser that they had set out for trash not kniowing that the papers were inside the drawer under some old clothes.
