I have to admit even living up north in the snowy cold parts of the upper Appalachian mountains, I didn't like soup. I have never liked it my whole life and over time I have SLOWLY gone to apprecate a good soup. My wife makes soup at almost every meal and it is pretty good for soup. Do you eat soup? If so what is your favorite? You like hot soup or cold soup? Or are you like me and can skip soup as a food group all together. Would love to hear your responses!

Heinz soup... I know that is big in Britain but don't know if it is in America or not. I will have to check my store shelves. Heinz in America is most notable for his 57 varieties (ketchup) than for his soups.

I love Minestrone. My husband loves chicken noodle, the Mennonite kind where you use the stock and pour it over the noodles and eat the chicken separately. He also loves summer borsch with cabbage, tomatoes, and sausages, but I do not like that either. So my goal is to learn to make Minestrone if my husband does not complain about me buying the ingredients. I also love tomato soup and anything with beef broth and lots of chunks of meat and vegetables.

Minestrone soup I have not had that probably since I actually lived with the Mennonites (which make GREAT soup in their own right). Chunks of meat and veggies. THAT makes a great soup.

My husband's family was Mennonite and his mother made Summer borsht, the Mennonite answer to Minnestrone.

Seaweed soup... I guess what not to like is the seaweed. No serously the slurping the not being able to pick up with your hands or stick a fork in it and chew for a while... at least I can chew steak, salad, etc... Soup is like a drink that tastes bad.

I love a good soup, but the homemade stuff is a whole lot better than canned. Hot soups are also alot better than cold soups. I think I have had only one cold soup that I liked. It was some sort of cucumber something..I don't know is was preety good. But hot soups on the other hand: I don't think there is anything better than a good soup on a cold day. Now on warmer days, like in your case in Florids, I would probably rather BBQ, but soups on occasion would be all right. My favorite soups are probably: chile, Potato, and vegetable beef. It's good stuff.

Chilled cucumber soup... had it once... very refreshing on a warm summer day for those of you down under. Potato soup is great and a vegetable beef soup... let that simmer down into a stew and you have yourself a meal!

I like hot soup. Especially say, a country vegetable broth. Basically, throw all of your veg - onion, leek, carrot, whatever - into a pan...it's nice either watered down or thick. Goes well with granary rolls.

Many years ago people (veggies) would order French Onion soup and God only knows how many I served to them not knowing it was made with beef broth. Total whoops on my part. I know if someone served me pork I'd flip out (and it's happened before) so sorry all you veggies out there who were served by me so many years ago.

I am guessing you are referring to a canned soup. I have never had a hearty home-made soup that left me wanting for anything, other than a nice cozy place to curl up and savour the memories of the wonderful meal.

Soup is one of my main food groups. It stretches my food dollar forever. I can take a turkey carcass and live for months on it via the soup pot. Plenty of potatoes, onion, carrots, celery, dry beans, and cabbage keeps my food bill below $100 a month some months. As I'm on disability, it is a necessity!

I like a lot of different soups. Had one the other day that was not supposed to be soup but ended up that way. Was making broccoli with cheese for lunch and didn't drain enough water and it was soupy but oh so delicious. It was a very cold day here and it sure did hit the spot. I do not like cold soups, just hot ones.

If I had to pick one soup it would be broccoli & cheese. As for cold soups a peach soup or a strawberry soup really hits the spot for me.

We love homemade soup. It has much less salt than any of the store bought kinds. So that is why we make it so often. Especially with fresh veggies or frozen veggies. It is very good in summer

Thank you so much for best response! It as the best answer you deserve it! I do try very hard to eat the right foods and stay active. Activity along with eating right is the key! 30 minutes a day... even doing laundry cleaning the house and other chores counts It's a slow process losing the weight the right way. You don't gain weight overnight and it isn't coming off overnight! The only thing that really worked for me, diet wise, recently was when I cut out all sodium and meats. Remember not to cut ALL sodium, you body needs salt just not the tons that they put in junk food and fast food. I need sugar but need the fat to lose weight... everyone is different. Just fresh. Plus, i added some canned low salt tomatoes to my salads daily. I lost at least twenty pounds in two months. For most people 2lbs. a week (8 a month) is a good indicator that you are on the right track. The weight came off easily. But the trick is to maintain healthy eating habits afterwards. Completely agree with you! Thanks again Zelo

That is a great observation. Those who have been "friends" of mine on myLot for quite some time no that I have been both trying to become more healthy, eat more healthy, and lose the 20 year so extra pounds that is not needed around my waist. One other things that I have found, is that when I tried to even eat healthy in a restaurant, I invariably end up gaining a lot of weight. When I talk to my trainer about this, she brought up the fact that even if you are eating "healthy" at a restaurant, almost anything that you order is going to be very high in sodium and therefore the weight gain and is "water weight" and not "fat weight". I've also found that when you eat it home, this is you have said the ingredients are fresher and the food is much better for you than what you could ever find outside the house. Excellent

Thank you so much for best response! I do try very hard to eat the right foods and stay active. It's a slow process losing the weight the right way. So, I'm constantly working at it. Before my daughter was born, I could go on crash diets and burn off the weight easily and it would stay off for awhile until I started eating junk foods again. The only thing that really worked for me, diet wise, recently was when I cut out all sodium and meats. I did the "salad diet". I had nothing but fresh fruits, fresh or steamed vegetables, cooked beans and legumes, peanuts, etc. Just fresh. Plus, i added some canned low salt tomatoes to my salads daily. I lost at least twenty pounds in two months. The weight came off easily. But the trick is to maintain healthy eating habits afterwards. Best of luck with your weight loss. It will happen! I'm sure of it. Be well. BeautyQueen

Hi again... We have different viewpoints on this one. I LOVE soup...especially creamy soups, Borscht soup and thick, chunky vegetable soups. I am not so much into clear, watery soups...nope have to be thick, creamy and stick to your ribs soups. Cold soups...nope that isn't high on my hit parade either. I love soups so much I will eat them hot, thick and creamy regardless of the weather. If it is hot outside and I am in an air conditioned restaurant I will still eat a big, hot bowl of soup. So you asked..now you know zeloguy..I LUV soups! Cheers and happy slurping... Raia

It's not that I hate soup per se it has to be a chunky soup like a potato soup or a cream soup like broccoli or asparagus. I also like cold soup... chilled cuccumber/peach/strawberry/etc.... Give me some meat almost like a stew and I am happy with a good hearty soup!

Yep, hearty soups are my favorites too. Watery soups...not so much. David just made a big pot of hearty pea soup with brown rice today. Great fare for the tummy...warm soups to warm the body during our chilly Manitoba weather. Raia

I LOVE soup, especially in the winter time, especially homemade. I make an excellent vegetable soup and when I make it we eat it for about a week. With warm Italian or French bread or fresh homemade biscuits it's the BEST! I also love French Onion soup, cream of broccoli, cream of mushroom and the old standby chicken noodle soup. Homemade is always preferable but there are some canned soups and mixes that do in a pinch. Actually, soup is a nutritious and healthy low calorie meal or course with a meal. Annie

Gotta have French bread (or at least hard Italian if you can't find French) when you are eating a good hearty soup. Soup can be very nutritious just watch out for the sodium content in it and you will be fine... more than fine... delicious! Thanks for the response. Zelo

I love soups, i find that depending on the type of soup you can eat them in the winter or summerso they are a good all year rounder. I love to make soup, it's fairly easy and if you make up a big batch you can freeze it to make a quick & easy meal in weeks to come. I prefer my soup hot, even in the summer.

I like soup. Even if it doesn't get cold enough in Florida! My first memories of soup are from being a kid and getting campbels chicken and starts whenever I got sick. I also like campbels (not sure if I'm spelling it right) split pea soup. I have had homemade chicken soup as well. I even made it myself once! I also like beef stew (cuban style). I'm still trying to figure out the differences between soup and stew. Then there's chowder...I won't eat clam chowder. I could never bring myself to try that. But I do like corn chowder. Made that myself a couple times too.

my wife only makes home made soup..from scratch as most soups have too much sodium and MSG? well, its a matter of health but once you cut the sodium out for awhile you can tell the difference and the taste is a lot different especially if you use Mrs. Dash or something that is on the same agenda.herbs and spices.. the only soup she does buy is broth, cream of mushrooom as she used this in other recipes like green bean casserole, and tomatoe.. the hot soup is best but the gourmet would serve soup cold because it was the first item served and people could eat it without letting it cool off..it is called Vicy-squaw..spelling wrong but it gets the message across..thanks for the story..do you remember Soupy Sales on TV?
