Easy Does It... One Step At A Time.

One Step At A Time - Old lady with walking stick... one step at a time.

For all of you who asked for updates, I have some news for you this evening, on my inability to walk, after a freak accident on the stairs, last Saturday. It's fairly good news and I'm optimistic. Last night, I was finding it very difficult to sleep on my back, so I unscrewed the lid from my lavender jar, placed it beside my pillow and tried rolling over onto my side... woohoo, it worked without too much pain, so I managed to get to sleep for a good seven hours, and when I woke, I gingerly lifted my leg, to roll onto my back, and expected pain, as I'd slept on it most of the night. What do you know? There was no pain, so I thought I'd try another test. I bent my leg, and put my foot flat on the mattress... still no pain... so I straightened it again. I could hardly believe it. I must have rested quite well, and it helped... or could it have been the lavender which played a part??? Anyway, what I've been doing to date, is sliding out of bed onto my typist's chair and then scooting off to the bathroom and kitchen, but I thought today, I would just try a little exercise first, so, with the help of the mattress and the chair, I pulled myself up into a standing position, with most of my weight on my left leg. Then, staying close to the bed in case I fell, I turned the chair around so I could hold onto the back of it, and slowly transferred the weight onto my right leg. Wow... still no pain, so using the furniture and the bed for support, I walked to the other side of the bed to get a cardi, and back. It took a while, but no matter. Then, I held onto the back of the chair and wheeled it in front of me whilst I walked to the bathroom, left it outside the bathroom door, picked up my ex father-in-law's old walking stick and using that and the bathroom shelving, I made it in to do what I had to. Out to the kitchen, to make tea and a sandwich, which I managed, but could only bring one thing back at a time, and had to keep putting them down and picking up again. So, I managed two journies to the kitchen as well, and back to my computer. It took forty five minutes to do that, but that's the least of my worries... I don't have any speed yet, and I was pleased to be able to do it. I sat down then, as my other leg was starting to ache a bit, in the calf. However, I figured I had to keep this going so, after an hour at the computer, I hauled myself up again, and went to do the washing up and peel the veg for my dinner. That took me another forty minutes, but you can imagine how pleased I was to be able to get off my aching butt for a while. ha ha ha. I've been out to cook my dinner and make a drink once since then, and now, my leg is starting to ache, so the bathroom will be my final attempt for tonight, with the aid of my chair, and so to bed, to rest it again. I just thought you'd all like to know how I'm going on, and I was excited, to say the least. I do have to have the support though, just in case. I don't want to fall over and knock myself out, so gently does it, and as the title suggests, one step at a time.

I daresay your prayers and blessings helped too, my friend. I'm very slow and cautious at the moment, and not spending too long on my feet, but it's better to take it slowly, I think. Brightest Blessings, love and hugs. xxx

No, Gabs, I haven't been to the doctor, but I've rested it well, flexed and exercised it and it is getting slowly better. Not only can I stand now, I can walk with the support of one stick, most of the time, at least. I still try to get quite a lot of rest in bed, watching television or reading a book, because my rear end is suffering from all the sitting. ha ha ha. Brightest Blessings, love and hugs. xxxx

As I understand what you are saying, you slept on your side with the affected leg between you and the bed. It is funny, but if I have an achy side, I put it down on the mattress and sleep. The best I can figure is that it is a type of splinting that realigns the bones etc.I am sure your lavender contributed to your deeper relaxation which allows the bones and other parts to ease gently back into place. I am so glad that you are feeling this much mobility, and that you are taking it very easily. I guess I would have set my food on a tray on the seat of the chair and rolled it into the room it needed to be in. Keep it up. Keep us posted.

I slept on my right side with my right leg (the affected one), directly on the mattress, and the left leg on top of that, which surprisingly, didn't hurt. Strange that. Yes, I'm sure the lavender played a part in it somewhere, too. As for setting the food on a tray on my chair, that's a good idea, but I didn't have the chair in the kitchen... I'd walked with a stick, if you remember, leaving the chair on the landing outside the bathroom. I'll do that next time... good thinking. Brightest Blessings and I'll let you know if there's more progress.

Just saw this notification. I am sorry you had a fall. Hope you are well now. Apt title - Easy does it... One Step At a time. If only we could apply this concept in our daily life.

I didn't actually fall, my friend. My leg decided to give up on me. I'm afraid that I have no choice but to adopt the "One Step At A Time" concept into my daily life at the moment, but I'm quite pleased with the way it's going at the moment. Brightest Blessings.

Sweets I wonder if you may have gotten something a bit out of place and sleeping in a new position may have helped it..of course we all know about the relaxing factors of lavender..if you had a knot or a tight spot maybe the lavender relaxed it out...Have you used a eucalyptus rub to ease the tightness at all? And if you have anything with menthol in it..teatree..arnica...mix it all in and rub it on..You could take the arnica orally also I'm sure you know all these things better then I. xoxoxoxoxo

I don't know how it happened Raydene, but a couple of nights ago, it pained me to lift my foot off the mattress. It was ok all the time it was on the mattress but I couldn't lift it, without hitting the ceiling. I have olbas oil, which is eucalyptus and teatree but no arnica. Would it be ok just using the two? I guess so. I'm sure also that the lavender helped and maybe it made me so I dreamed something because somehow, I got it into my mind that I could stand and put pressure on that leg today. It is supposed to clarify dreams. Hmmmmm. Brightest Blessings, my dear friend. xxxx
