I love to crochet. I do not profess to be a professional by any means. But I can crochet to suit my style. The last several years, the ONLY thing I enjoy crocheting are baby blankets. Plus with my married children now having babies, I have had good reason to crochet baby blankets. I have searched the internet for beautiful afghan patterns. I have searched the craft stores as well. I have not been able to find a pattern that was unique, pretty, elegant, that is also easy to follow. The knit patterns are to me the most beautiful, but I haven't knitted in years, I would be interested if anyone has an easy pattern to introduce me back into knitting. But if you have a pattern for knit or crochet for a baby afghan/blanket that is not a granny square, one that is easy to follow and you also love I would love to have you send it to me. I do have one that I will share with you upon request, it is easy and requires very little yarn, basic 2 colors with fringe and it is not only pretty, elegant, but easy to make and washable. I love making them and giving them as blankets.

This is my ripple stitch patern - I'm using this ripple stitch patern for an afaghan.
I can crochet but I absolutely can not follow a patern. I can read very well but for some reason I just can't put my fingers together with a book. If you tell me to chain a string 50 inches long. I know what that means. If you tell me to single crochet in every stitch I could and so on but to follow the book???? I am making an afaghan for my recliner chair. It's going to look kind of nice. I'm using three colors and doing it in the ripple stitch. I used to do them in double crochet but I like the single stitch better. Do you like it ?

Like I said I can't follow a pattern. I was told this is a ripple pattern? It's eazy to tell you what I did here because you said you crochet, so it's not like I have to start from how to hold a hook or anything. This is just done in my head. I single crochet 10 and in the 11 th crochet a cluster of 3 in one, then I go on to crochet 9 then I miss 2 holes and again crochet 10 doing 3 in number 11 hole. That's it that all, just keep going. Good luck. Let me know how you do.

Baby Afghan - Just made it.
Here is a link to a very, very easy one I made last week. I got a lot of compliments on it. This site has free patterns and I just print them off. http://members.aol.com/fourleafcl1064/page24.html

You know I have been crocheting on this pattern since you sent it to me and I just love it. I am worried though b/c I think I made the first row a bit too tight, I wish I had made my first chains a little more loose to start with, but this is going to be really pretty. I cannot thank you enough for sharing this with me. All I could see was this one pattern though, could you send me the link to the site to my other email addy? it is katznana1@aol.com Thanks so much heather, I do love this one and can't wait to see the finished product!

I would love to see pictures of some you have made. I get a lot of free patterns in the yarn section of Wal Mart and Hobby Lobby. I have seen crochet charts rather than written patterns and I think that would be great to learn.

Gerty I will try to find some pics of the blankets I have made this past year, I wish I had of taken pics of them before I gave them away, but I will find them and post them, I have written myself a note to do just that. Great to hear from you. I too have taken the freebies from walmart, but I love the redheart soft baby yarn and I have to resort now to finding them online on ebay b/c all the walmarts around me are phasing them out and I don't really life bernat or soem of the other brands, I am used to the redheart and it washes well and crochets well.

When someone crochets you a blanket today, that is a heart-warming gift. That takes a lot of time.

I do love to make the baby blankets. I have tried with the booties but I don't really have the patience for it, I have tried and tried, but I get confused easily I guess. You are right it is a heart warming gift and I make them for those that are deep in my heart. However, this last year or so I almost suffered from crochet burn out. I had 2 grandbabies, no wait 3 of them plus my hubby's best friend & his wife had surgery so she could try for a girl, they had 3 boys almost grown, and they did have a girl, so it was a busy year, I averaged making each baby 2 and some of them 3 blankets a piece! But I love to see the babies wrapped in the love that goes into each one of them. Thanks for sharing with me : )

Crocheting is just the best, isn't it? I haven't tried making blankets yet, but i can't wait to make up my first one! I see a lot of cute ideas over at craftster.org, have you been to that site at all? Some people share their patterns or where they are from. There are cute ones that make a large star blanket, and some people just make up as they go along. It's been a great resource for inspriationf or me, hopefully it can be the same for you! I haven't tried knitting, but I should give it a try sometime. The website has knitters there too, by the way. In fact any kind of craft I think! It's awesome. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks for sharing angelkitten. I do love to crochet the baby blankets/afghans. I have done the great big huge ones before years and years ago, but I just don't have the patience anymore. My mom loved them and I think she still has them, the ones I did for her. I don't have any that I have done, I long ago got tired of them and they looked very outdated on my furniture, I am into the "throws" that are sooo soft for snuggling to watch tv. But I enjoy new patterns and I dont' just like any crochet pattern for a blanket or afghan I love the ones that look pretty or dainty or elegant. The knitted ones to me are the prettiest but I'm not up to trying that yet. I can knit, but just haven't since I learned to crochet.

Hi applsofgld! Wow! I really am fascinated with crochet. My dear old aunts love crochet and they make us different things such as shawls, belts, blanket and so many other things. I love it when they finish their masterpieces whether it is just a headband or a purse. They tried to teach me but there is something in me that I can't even follow the simplest basic pattern so I gave up and just rely on them making something for me. hehe..Bless my aunts! Take care and have a nice day! :)

I love to crochet and have never learned to knit. I don't have any patterns for baby blankets, however I think that regular afghans work as good baby blankets and they are something the child can use later in life as well.
