I know that different cultures have different customs and also different ways in which to show respect and appreciation for family and friends. In my own country and thus culture, it is disrespectful to do so, but is not really leaned on as our culture is slowly becoming very.... aggressive in our own behaviors. I think that your father was only trying to watch out for you but you are an adult and you felt as if you should be able to choose which soup you eat. Was he purchasing it for you or preparing it for you? If he was preparing it for you in the comforts of his own home or if he was preparing it for you in your home but the soup was purchased by you... well for the first scenario I would have been respective, for the next I would have asked if I could have the tomato as I had bought it and it was my own home. If he preferred not to fix the tomato then I would have fixed the vegetable.

Well, in my country there's a saying that goes something like this "Under your own roof, you make the rules. Your under mine, so respect my rules". If you were giving an opinion and he insisted, communications may have been off as he may have thought you were insisting.

Both are equally good for you. I would have asked him why he wanted me to eat veggie soup so badly when tomato soup was just as good for me? But I don't think you are wrong. If you didn't want to eat it you are probably old enough to decide what you do and don't like food wise. Please don't tell my 6 year old I said that. He will never eat green beans again. LOL

both are nutritious soup. but maybe your dad has his reasons why he was so adamant that you take the vegetable soup instead. the tomato soup is rich in lycopene. good for the heart. you should have talked to your dad and explained why you wanted the tomato soup.

I would have preferred the tomato soup too! No I dont think you should have eaten the vegetable soup just to please someone else, and anyway tomato soup is just as good for you. We all have our own opinions, our likes and dislikes and we should go with what we like!! My parents were terrible for making me eat things they liked and thought were good for me, as a consequence when I left home I would eat none of those things and just had what I liked!!!
