Taking things for granted

A few months ago the power in my neighborhood was out for several hours, and I hadn't realized how much we depend on electricity for even the smallest things.
I couldn't cook, use the microwave, and my hot water heater is electric so those things were useless. I couldn't watch tv, use the computer or even listen to the radio. My neighbors and I all ended up outside in a group talking because none of us had anything else to do. One neighbor had been in the shower when the power cut out and she said that suddenly she had no hot water, so she stood outside with wet hair talking to us.
Now, since my husband's car is not running, he is using mine, since he makes more money than I do and travels farthur it is essential that he gets to work.
But I didn't realize how much I took having a vehicle for granted. I am effectively stuck and having to depend on others just to get to work.
I find myself wishing that my job was within walking distance, but three miles is a bit long. At one time in my younger days I could have walked that no problem, but now? I don't think I would make it.
It bothers me to depend on others for transportation, there unfortunately is no public transport here which I would gladly take advantage of, and taxi's are so costly these days that it isn't cost effective, for what they want for fare I could run a car for three days.
I am learning to cope with it, and hopefully it will be temporary, we are still discussing our options, and I do appreciate those who have helped me this past week.
We too often take things like this for granted and then when it's gone we don't know how to cope, but I realize that things could be a lot worse, so I am thankful for what I do have.
What do you find is inconvenient when you no longer have it? What makes your day to day life easier?

What I find really inconvenient when I don't have it is my health...all the other things I can do without...or figure out a way to do without them.
