Wind turbine for home use

February 14, 2008 6:12am CST
Does anyone if it is feasible yet to use a small (500w) wind turbine for home use, I am interested in buying one as where we live is always windy and whilst I dont want to spend a fortune on a big turbine I feel a small one could be a good investment and also help offset some carbon emissions. Does anyone have a turbine that they use for home use and what can I expect to gain from installing one? Best regards, J.

I think it's got lots of possibilities and yes you do need to check for a permit. Some municipalities have height and sound restrictions. You might want to go with something with more of an output then (500w) .It still is a great idea and I have been looking into it myself. Along with solar and geothermal. There's lots of ideas out there. Getting off the grid always seems like a good idea to me.

Check with your municipal government before doing this, you may need a special permit for it. Given that it is windy all the time where you are, a turbine would be a good investment, and would pay off rather quickly. Good luck to you with this.
