Wolfie Has To Go Naked For The Cause

There that got you intrigued didn't it! Well Wolfie is known for his honesty and being totally upfront and honest about everything, revealing all... So this is no exception... Following on from my constant need to pee, I have been referred to Uro-dynamics to check that my bladder is functioning correctly, my GP has said my constant need to go to the toilet is due to anxiety but the nurse at the continence clinic wants a full diagnosis on how my bladder is working, the old flow charts of liquids in and out! So I am on the waiting list to go and get my bladder checked trouble is it's the thought of where the lens has to go, it's like Wolfie crosses his legs at the thought. The nurse said they give you a sedative etc, but the thought of that tube going up the privates, don't get me wrong it's not the embarrassment, I am past that, and I don't care about being naked or feeling embarrassed, it's the thought of a tube going up there, (brings tears to me eyes up the urethea) know what I mean? And what if things point north LOL! I have had an op before when they had to snip my bladder which sadly didn't work but they gave me a general anaesthetic last time so I was totally out of it. This time they can't knock me out as I have to be fully awake when they do it so they can monitor my bladder working So are there any examinations or operations that you dread because of feeling embarrassed, feeling uncomfortable about what is going to happen or the thought of something going into you?

And there was me thinking this was going to be an account of some of your antics when in a good night out! lol I do understand what you mean by bringing tears to your eyes - I may not have a urethra but I have had 2 children! Very little embarrases me now sweets - when you go into hospital to have children you leave all your dignity at the doorstep! Even my annual smear test etc aren't embarrasing - just so long as no one wants to look at my piles! xxxx

ooh, you are lucky. I had kidney surgery a few years ago where they places stint from my kidney to my bladder. When they took it out no sedative or anything. OMG did them sticking the scope up there hurt. I honestly thought I was going to pass out, to make matter worse the Dr (who happened to be male) was like "Oh you can take this, older people come in here all the time and have to get this done on a regular basis". Needless to say that was the worst Dr I have ever had.

Since it was an in house procedure the only thing he could do was knock me out completely (this was also 5 years ago, so a lot has changed since then as well). I really think he could not be bothered. The only reason I went to this guy was because at the time I was living in Iowa and he was one of the best Dr in the country, at the best hospital,to do my operation in the area. I did one pre-op appointment with him and two post op, never saw him again.

I would never have gone back to him again. They do indeed give you something for that procedure especially if you ask for it.

Wolfie I am so glad that you are getting a diagnostic workup on your plumbing! When I read your post about antidepressants, I remember thinking to myself that before I would chalk up the peeing issue to anxiety I would want to have the plumbing inspected! As for not being 'knocked out' during your procedure, no, you won't be totally knocked out. But you will be relaxed and 'high' from the sedative that you will not really care what is going on! Nothing a nurse can tell you will take ALL your anxiety about the procedure away but I hope you'll trust me on this little part!

I guess what freaked me out was a close friend on mine had this done, he was treated appallingly by this horrible woman who was so cold and nasty to him, and said they didn't give sedatives they needed him fully conscious and he was so embarrassed that he walked out, after hearing that I am worried sick that I will turn up and they won't give me a sedative. It was a different hospital I went to, I dread getting someone who is so cold and like Nurse Ratchett. I need to know I get a sedative before going x

That would put the wind up me a bit too. Especially if I was a guy but they must be used to all sorts of reactions they get, they've seen it all before. I'm being treated for a bowel obstruction and I spent a couple of days in hospital recently. I was going to have an enema. We all know what an enema is right? It involves a tube and a pouch of warm soapy water. The tube is shoved into your rectum and the warm soapy water goes in and fills you up and washes you out then all comes out again making a big mess if you don't hold it in and get to the bathroom in time. Not these days. It is a little tube of stuff that they put inside you, it's 5ml to be precise or 1 teaspoonful. It still has the same effect but it's not so invasive as someone shoving a tube up inside you and filling you with water. Mind you, it didn't work for me as my blockage is high up and this is more for lower bowel constipation. The worst part is, this absolutely gorgeous friend of mine who I haven't seen for nearly 2 years but who rings me every so often rang me a few days before I went to hospital and said he would be in the area that day and he would stop in and visit me. I was imagining him coming just as I had to rush to the bathroom or something equally embarrassing so I put him off. It turns out I had a very comfortable stay in hospital with my own bathroom and so a visitor (especially him) would have been lovely. I'm going for a colonoscopy in a few weeks but I'll be totally out to it so I'm preparing myself now not to be embarrassed by the whole thing. Hope you are better soon my friend. We will both laugh about this someday...lol.

Same here sweetheart...my sense of humour helps me to be brave. Also, if a nurse or doctor is doing something awful to me, I'd rather have them laughing and smiling while they do it...it makes me feel better anyway...lol. Thanks for BR cutie. ;)

I am sorry you have to go through this procedure. It does not sound fun at all. I have to admit you did get me intrigued with the discussion title. My first thought was: What in the world is Wolfie up to now?? LOL

I don't mind being cut open and closed under anesthesia. But I shudder at the thought of sending a tube up my tube or any orifice.Sorry for sounding not much comforting to you.

Ouch, that does sound painful. No matter how painful that sounds to me, I would do it twice rather than go to the dentist. I would rather have a pap test 4 times than go to the dentist. I do get embarrassed whenever stirrups are involved, and a horse isn't. Be brave laddie, you'll be fine.

From a nursing stand point they do not bother me when they must be done. I know the why and were fors. Not to mention that the little tube they use has such a short distance to travel in us females. I can relate to your anxiety about going "north" as it does happen on occasion, Just keep in mind that the team doing your test are professionals and have seen and experienced it all. For the most part Wolfie the sedative will make you sleepy and you will not care where they are sticking their scope... layback and enjoy the buzz! I for one am glad you are having it done.

As long as they give me a sedative, I don't think I'm brave enough to do it without

I sometimes suffer severe stomach pain caused by anxiety and I was supposed to have an endoscopy, which is where they stick a tube down your throat into your stomach to see if there's anything wrong. My local hospital is really bad at organizing things like that so I never actually got it and the pain comes and goes and can be controlled with strong pain killers and gaviscon so I wasn't too bothered. I certainly wasn't looking to forward to that though, I would have been offered sedatives apparently and they spray your throat to stop you gagging on the tube but even so it sounds horrible. Yours definitely sounds more uncomfortable though, I'm sure they will do something to numb the area even if you have to be awake though, and it will be a very thin tube too I imagine so it won't be as bad as you think.

I just think the worst, always have done! Mind you having said that I think I would gag if something was put down my throat, so probably it's the less of the two evils. Trust me to catastrophize eh!

Nancyrowina, I've had to have several endoscopies done. In fact, I have to schedule one this next week, as I'm due again. They should give you Versed (two syllables) or something similar, and you won't have any memory of the tube going down your throat or having it removed. If your stomach is bad, you really should have it done. there's something called Barrett's esophagus, which I have, that can lead to cancer and it should be checked! It's not really something that you should fool around with, honey. Try to see you doctor and get one scheduled. Then, you'll be able to know exactly what's wrong and you can get the right medicine to control your symptoms.

I hate the annual papsmear and don't see how women are supposed to take this. The jelly they usually doesn't really help when they take that cold metal clamp to you. It's so uncomfortable and painful.
