My Niece was in the hospital last night

Last night my 5 yera old niece was in the emergency part of the hospital. She had fallen while running with my other niece, and hit her head on the corner of outside, concrete steps! She had a large gash in the back of her head, which bled a lot!
Me, my mom, and my younger sister rushed to the hospital the minute my sister called and told us what happened. We were in the hospital for 4 hourse. My niece had to get stiches and staples put into her head. She hated everything about this night, even jus cleaning the gash she hated, and cried and screamed. But really, she was okay.
She got to go to McDonalds for dinner afterwards! Since it was past 11pm and my niece had not eaten any dinner that day (never got a chance to), and was not able to eat or drink ANYTHING at the hospital! But she was much happier after we got out of the hospital, and got some food in her stomach.
My sister and 2 nieces ended up spending the night at our house. They left now though, and everyone is fine!

That was very scary and upsetting, but at least everyone pretty well off now. But tiring. No place to eat at your hospital? Always amazes me that they keep people waiting 4 hours and never offer or tell people about food anywhere. Take care

Well me, my younger sister and my mom went and got food. We asked the nurse and doctor if my niece could eat, but they said no X.X She wasn't even allowed to have water because they were worried about what it would do to her for when they stitched/stapled her head.
And by the time we were done the hospitals cafetiria was closed. Which was sad because my niece really wanted food from the hospital! But after she started eating her McD's burger she was happy! lol

That does not sound like a fun experience! I'm sorry :( I hate how the "professionals" always treat the lower people and people in training like their opinion doesn't matter. There's should matter the most!!

I'm glad she got to eat eventually. I had my sugar dive during the flu once and our hospital still didn't want to give me anything, My neighbor was so angry. They would give me sugar, my sugar went up, then they wouldn't give me anything to eat and my sugar went down again. So this is a real sore spot for me. The female EMT didn't want to leave me because my sugar kept diving and they ordered her out. She was a volunteer, but I didn't like the way they treated her, so they left me alone with sugar going up and down when the dear woman wanted to stay. I think she was right and they were wrong. Buy I was very young and didn't realize. Then they dismissed me from the hospital and I almost passed out on my Mother. So who was right? Take care.

Oh, wow. I'm sorry to hear that but I am glad she is okay now. My daughter was running through my moms house and she ran right into the corner of the wall and cut her head open. We were on our honeymoon at the time. When we got back my mom told us what had happened. She probably should have got stitches but she healed really well.

I am so sorry your niece was hurt the other night. Kids bounce back pretty fast. I do know the head will bleed like crazy. Always looks alot worse than the actual injury is because of all the blood. I bet she had a terrific headache after her fall. A hospital visit of 4 hours with a 5 yr. old is not an easy chore. Hope she's doing ok.
It's so hard when kids get hurt. I use to get so upset when one of ours required stitches. I hurt as much as they did or maybe even more.

Yeah I couldn't even imagine hwo bad she felt X.X But she probably behaived better than I would lol. There would have to be a couple of people holding me down if I had to get stitches and staples...or I would have to be knocked out! lol. I do not do good with pain and hospitals.

Thank you very much! =) I figured that she would have to get either stitches or staples (she got both! X.X) because of the size of the gash. But she is doing much better now, and she likes showing people her 'owie.' =p

Yeah when I first saw the gash I covered my mouth and looked away. It looked pretty bad! And she had quite a good amount of blood on the back of her shirt. But she is much better now! :)

oh my..
i think anyone (not just a 5-year-old) would have hated the whole process... you are in pain and you have to get stitches and staples on your head.. i would have cried and screamed, too....
i am happy it did not turn out worse than it did...
glad that your niece is okay.. and enjoyed her 'late-nite-treat'.
take care..

I am so glad that your niece is now okey and didn't have such serious injuries because honestly, it could have been worst. Maybe its true too that angels do watch over the children because when they hit their head, they always come out better than most adults. I remember last year when an adult male slept and hit his head and was not able to wake up anymore. Gosh! It was enough to give me nightmares and make me paranoid for sometime as far as my children are concerned. But over time, I have learned to trust that my children would be okey too and to believe that someone is also watching over them.

That defeniatly seems fitting. The doctors told us how bad it could have been! Some of their questions for my sister made me nervous; "was she unconcious at all, did she throw up, etc." But she was fine, which is good!
*She did not like the male nurse who cleaned out her owie, even though he could not have been nicer! lol. He came in just to check up for a second, and when he peaked his head in the door she glared at him! It was so funny and so cute!*

When it heals, try to use something to heal the scar. My niece hit her head on the side of a pool when she was much younger and the scar is still there. It is not that bad, but it stands out because she is part of a set of triplets. Some kids have a hard time dealing with permanant scars.

It's on the back of her head and it will be covered with hair when she grows up =P So I'm not too worried about her scarring. But I think my sister is using neosporin on it anyways.
