Letting Food Control Me

I'm so mad and fed up at myself for getting to the shape I'm in. I pretty much let myself go. My self esteem is so low. I know I'm not the ugliest girl ever nor the prettiest but I do know I can look better then I do right now. And I know part of it is a mind game. If you can get your mind right the rest will follow. Oh how I wish to be a size 8 instead of a 12. I can even fit a 16 but thank God 12 still fits. They always say a journey of a 1,000 miles begins with a single step. I need to take that first step or have someone push me lol.

I had weight loss surgery in August of 2003. I was 322 lbs. I tried so hard to get the weight off. I had to resort to this because of so many failures. I got down to 135 lbs and looked absolutely horrible. Soon I evened out and was wearing a size 10 and was approx. 150 lbs. I have recently quit smoking and the weight is creeping back on. I do not want to start smoking again. I want the weight off. I weigh 185 now. I have gained 50 lbs in approx 2 1/2 years. I constantly eat. I have to eat. I bought some Tootsie Roll Pops and I am starting there. (I need the sweet). I am buying carrots and celery over the weekend. If I have to eat constantly I just might have to eat healthy. I am scared that the weight will creep back on. More and more. I am a tight size 14. (Low rider pant...roll right off of me LOL) I am also buying one pair of size 16 high rise jeans that are comfortable enough for me to relax in. I am tired of living in sweats all of the time because jeans are soo uncomfortable. Did I push you enough? Because if I didn't, I did push myself enough. :-)

Yes, you CAN put the weight back on. It takes a little longer, but it is possible. I am addicted to the *thought* of eating. It isn't the food. It is the 'motion' of doing it. I bought my carrots tonight and am starting there. I cannot wait for it to get warmer, so I can start my walking again. With my Multiple Sclerosis, my balance isn't that great in the cold, snowy and icy weather.

Thank you for being so honest. So even after surgery you can gain the weight back? Thats a bummer.

Thank you for being so honest. So even after the surgery you can gain the weight back? Seems like they make all pants low rider nowadays. I also fear quitting smoking because of weight gain.

I am right there with you. I am trying so hard to get in the right frame of mind. I am concentrating on the law of attraction a lot. I have read the secret and am now reading finding your north star. I have lost 2 pounds this week, which is really great since I had to stay at my mom's a few nights. I always eat bad when I stay there. I am trying to eat a few small meals a day instead of a couple big ones. I am snacking on good food. I love salad already. It's just about not letting myself get so hungry that I don't care what I eat. Good luck to you! We should all start some form of group to cheer each other on daily.

Don't feel bad!! Listen, I have a problem with food addiction too. I lost most of my weight with Jenny Craig a few years ago and once life for me got very ugly and challenging, the only way I was able to soothe myself was with food. I was in a horrible depression that I didn't care. So now I am back to square one (well sort of, I have lost some weight since) but still far from where I was when I finished with JC. I still hate myself for it but no point in turning back. I am officially a yo-yoer. Thats a fact. I am here if you want talk. Oh by the way, not sure if I will ever fit a size 8, 10 would be ideal for me, but if I get into a 12 that will be okay. I got back to an ugly 20 but now I am about a size 16. Not happy with that but better than 20.

Oh don't feel bad, I have crappy genes so I will never be a size 8, and I have accepted that. A size 10, maybe but size 12 for sure which isn't that bad. Unfortunately all food does is satisfy you in the meantime but ruins things in the long run. Been there and done that. Too bad, I don't think that way WHILE I have a craving, sometimes anyway. Don't beat yourself up though, you know this, knowledge is power and the next step is breaking the habit but don't do anything cold turkey so to speak... I have found that by eliminating or limiting one thing at a time helps, now I don't even WANT sugary foods or fast food but I still have a habit of eating too much of a good thing, that still is bad.. portion control is my next challenge.

Your so sweet! I know theres some people who just pile on weight because of there genes & its even harder for them to take it off so I should be thankful there because both my parents are slim. I was depressed in a bad marriage and ate to console myself. I ate to relive the depression. Now Im fat & even more depressed lol.

You sound alot like me. I have let myself go also when it comes to weight and being in shape. I never have time to exercise alot or eat right. I always feed my nerves. My self esteem is very low also when it comes to what I think about the way I look. I am not the prettiest girl nor ugly either. You are not at all big if you are a size 12. I used to wear 5, 7 or a 9, but then for years I wore, 11 or 13 and now I have jumped to a size 16 and can't stand it. I would love to give you a push to do something for yourself about it. Do you have time to exercise? I don't and that is my main problem. I have a treadmill and an exercise bike and no time to use them.

I wish I lived close to you we could be each others buddy system. I hate the back & forth in my mind. It's ok to eat, its not ok to eat. Well go ahead & eat. Im gonna starve myself. Man sorry to complain but life can be so hard.

No problem at all. I just wish I had more time in a day to exercise. By the time I work 15-17 hours a day online and around the house etc., I am too exhausted to do a whole lot. I am wore out by then. I used to be able to starve myself and lose weight but that makes me sick now and gives me a headache. I try not to eat so much but my brain says eat. I think if I wasn't awake so many hours out of the day, I could actually rest instead of being up working and eating.

Hi jbelle, Pretty name. :) I am actually about the same size you are, but I don't consider it big. I've never been "tiny." I don't have big bones, but I don't have small ones either. But anyway, I was going to give some tips that have worked for me, and I hope might be of some help to you. Find yourself a workout partner. It is a lot harder to let someone else down than just yourself. Drink lots of water, and don't snack. (That's when I always put weight on) Eat in the day when you have time to burn it off. Not at night, which is when I crave ice cream! And yoplait, if you like yogurt, is very good and fat free or lowfat. I also like special K cereal. I hope I have added something new for you. Good Luck! B

Hi meet a fellow sufferer altho instead of a twelve I am a size 22, and hate the way I look and feel. I have diabetes so must lose the weight as soon as I can. oh to be in a size 16 would make my day. If I at age 81 can make myself go for a thirty minue walk and cut my portions back would that give you the nudge to get you started? You are so smart to be doing this now when you are only a little overweight and not wait like me until you are a lot overweight. Right now I am one unhappy woman over myweight and am determined to make some changes at once. Have seen my doctors so know what to do. now its just a matter of doing it. good luck to both of us.

First things first, now that you are aware that you need to do something for yourself, you should then determine what is th value why you want to take your first step then. Sometimes people have a hard time making the first step is because they have not realize what value would it have on you why you want to do it. Make your goals as exciting as possible so that while doing it you are enjoying it. Letting food control you is it valuable to you if so are you happy with what you are right now? Obviously you're not. How about exercising does that have value for you right now? Are you excited doing it to lose weight and get your desired size? Put something in your goal that will let you move forward and faster the better. Start by saying to yourself I am excited to enter into an exercise regimen to make my life lighter and look sexier. That's just an example which you could do better I believe.

Me too, I have sit back and not watched what I eat and at what times I eat, usually late at night while playing on the computer. used to weigh around 156 and that was good for me but now I have finally hit the 200 mark and while every day I swear I'm going to do something about I seem to not have the strength or the willpower to care. I was told by the doctor that the combination of medicine that I take has put the weight on me, I have sugar and really don't care it is one more thing added to all the other problems that I have. If you know of someway or something that will kick you in the butt and make you get up and give a damn please let me know, cause at the moment I could really care less. And I know the extra weight is bad on my already stressed heart, seems we reach a point in life where it is easier to just sit and do nothing.

Tell you what, I'll push you if you push me! :O) I'm 5'2". Up until 4 years ago, I was always a size 6, unless I was pregnant. After baby number 5, well, I just kept eating. Now I too am a size 12. I would love to be a size 8 again. My extra weight is all in my tummy, butt and thighs. I've recently started excersising again, and drinking a ton of water, but I'm having such a hard time staying away from the fatty foods! What do we do? LOL

Yeah I know how you are feeling, the important thing is to remember you deserve it and to also keep in mind if you don't do this for yourself no one will do it for you so you should get ahead start on your journey and take it one day at a time whilst being realistic and focused. That is the key really. Preparation is the key so that you don't get lazy. I mean if you have already a few meals prepared in the fridge in tupperware then you don't have to get up or go do a fast snack that is essentially going to slow you down in the long run. Activity is so important too. If you don't have a bike, get one seriously it helps to do different things not just walking or running. Alternate and it can be quite fun that way. Healthy people are happy people so that is why I think many of us are trying to pick ourselves up and drag our selves out into the fresh air or take the dogs for a walk. Be strong and keep yourself going even if you think you can not.

Been there! Let me start by applauding your realization. That's the first step! I'd start off by making changes in your diet. I decided not to eat red meat until I had lost my first 15 lbs. Turns out when I finally was able to eat it again, (about 3 months later) I didn't even enjoy it. There are many recipes for low cal and healthy meals. Once you lose a few, you will find that your motivation will be extremely high! Small changes add up to big ones (sorta like the money you make in here) Good luck to you!

I feel your pain! After having my son I gained a veritable ton of weight. I was up to a size 26. My problem was I was a) working and didn't have time to exercise b) tired and sick all the time c)hungry ALL the time. I am no good at counting calories or depriving myself of food I really love. It just doesn't work for me. Will power is great - but when you are hungry will power disappears in front of a bag of potato chips! I started doing nutritional cleansing in June and since then have gone from a size 26 to an 18. I want to be a 12 (That's about 180lbs at my height). I haven't been sick a day since and have enough energy that I've joined a gym again! My cravings have also pretty much disappeared since I have started filling my body with the nutrition it needs. There is hope! Keep searching until you find something that works for you!

A few weeks ago I started my weight loss journey for 2008. A few years ago, I lost over 30 lbs. This year, I need to lose over 50! :( The method that works best for me is to use www.fitday.com to watch my calories taken IN vs. going out. It measures your nutrition goals , weight loss goals, fat/carb/protein ratios etc. You can look at the charts and see progress. That is something to look forward to. I measure myself 1x a month hips, bust, waist, thighs and upper arms. I use a string, then cut it down to the size I've gone down to. If I gain, then I strive to fit the string again or see a greater loss. I try to eat more whole grains and low glycemic stuff. Nutri-system uses the low glycemic index to create good meals. I try to do the best I can on our low budget. I also exercise on my elliptical trainer 1-2x a day. I've lost 10 lb so far. Good luck to you all in your journey. If you'd like to add as a friend we could follow each other's progress. Take care.
