I've watched a show on tv where they featured edible flowers. My eyebrows arched...but after some time I told myself "why not?". The show featured "Roses Tempura" and "Boungainvilla Salad". I haven't tasted them before but I'm planning to prepare them this weekend. Are you willing to have flowers for lunch?

In the "Boungainvilla Salad" you only get the petals not the small white flowerlike thing in the center. You can use different color to make your salad more appetizing. Be sure to wash them and drain carefully as to not ruin them. Ingridients: Edible fern (blanched) Boungainvilla petals Boiled egg (for garnishing) Dressing: Vinegar Sugar Black pepper salt olive oil (optional) For the dressing, you just have to mix all ingridients for dressing to suit your taste. You can do estimates. Procedure: Arrange blanched edible ferns and boungainvilla in a bowl, add just enough dressing and garnish with sliced egg rounds. Enjoy!

Flowers can decorate desserts for a really beautiful look and edible accent. I have also had salads with various edible flowers in them, they blend in nicely with the mixed greens and a nice light vinaigrette dressing. My favourite floral snack is pansies though- they're delicious on pavlova! I make a batch of meringue, top with vanilla pudding, and then sprinkle lots of berries and pansies on top. Absolutely gorgeous and delicious!
