mmmmm Have you ever eaten a potato raw? just peeled it or washed it and ate it raw all by its self? or maybe salt on it? I just finished one, and i remembered how much that it used to gross my mom out that i would do it. How many of you eat your potatoes raw at least one in a while, or while your cutting them up?

It is very unhealthy to eat raw potato. Potato contains an alkaloid named solanine that can cause heart damage. Raw potato may be good only as external skin treatment due to large amount of starch that is good for skin.

I am vegetarian and I prefer raw food, but I would never eat raw potato. I am working right now on my nutrition book.

REALLY ? has someone told you about this or did you research it ? My mom used to say it was because of all the startch in a raw potato, but i didn't believe her cause she had no proof to back it up. I dunno where she got the idea even.

Potato , eating raw... no. I have eaten after simple boiling adding with some sugar. Washing the raw potato removes only the soil (mother's house connection!!!), but not the smell. I do not like. The raw potato has some green borders (very hard too) other than its original (mostly) colour and when you just bite, it is very bitter. I like, smaller potatos very much, that too boiled ones. In Hindi language, it is called as ' aalu ' In Tamil language, it is called as ' urLai '

I like them raw with salt on them. I would always sneak them when my mom was making homemade french fries. They are actually really good raw. My kids don't like them that way which is really surprising to me they like alot of things but not raw potatos.

that is slightly odd, but you know.. since you are offereing it to them of course they refuse it. I bet if you told them they couldnt eat them raw they'd want them ;) hehehe.

You are evil. I so thought this discussion was about something else, but I am guilty of doing the same. I could never eat a whole potato raw but when i am cutting them up for something I always pop a couple of pieces into my mouth.

Yes- I eat them as I chop them up! I have never just ate an entire one, though. We have a local grower here that, at peak season, has THE BEST potatoes I have ever tasted. Those I could definitely sit and just eat.

When I was growing up my grandmother would always give us kids a slice of raw potato when she was peeling them. I did the same for my kids and grandkids. even now once in a while I will eat one. It is like taking a bite of an apple.

I do sometimes, if I am looking for something really crunchy and nothing else sounds good. I cut it up and put salt on it.

Every once in awhile I will pop a piece in my mouth when cutting them up for mashed potatoes. I just read from one of your responses that its not good for us to do that. Hmmmmm I didnt know that. I guess I wont be eating any more raw potatoes.LOL

I haven't done that in a long time. But eating a whole potato, doesn't that mess with your digestive track? That is what my Mom would tell me, because I would take pieces as she was peeling them for supper, so I only would eat a few ..:)

I read polas explanation, so maybe you should not eat as much, just a few slices at a time?

Hello Sissygrl I like potatoes, cooked potatoes, but have never tried raw potatoes. I should try it and find out. I believe some raw foods are good in health. I do eat raw carrots after peeling it, sometimes grinned it and drink the juices. I think I could also do it with potatoes.

honey apparently it is n't that good for your body, thre is something in the potato raw that isn't healthy to eat. Another mylotter pointed it out. But try it, after all moderation is the key to everything. I've eaten whole potatoes for ever and i'm fine..

Yes! We were a 'meat n potatoes' family, growing up in New England, so we had regular old boiled potatoes at most every meal. I would peel potatoes for Mom and always take a piece for myself. Rinse that baby off in cold water, sprinkle with salt and mmmm mmm. I still take a small bite occasionally when I'm peeling them now. Always brings back the memory of doing it when I was young.

I've eaten a raw potato before and even though it is okay, I don't really care for it raw and would rather have it cooked. Though if I had no choice but to eat it raw and I was hungry, then I would eat it this way again.

Oh no... yucks!! I haven't eaten a raw potato before but I had been forced to drink juice from a raw one. Yucks!! I prefer to cook it first any day.:P

Yes sis I have , many many times! lol I only ever used to eat raw veg when I was young - I like my veg crispy! I still do nibble on raw potato from time to time but I don't eat too much at one time as I find they get a bit starchy! xxx

On no! I like some vegetables raw but potatoes definitely are not one of them! I love them cooked in many different ways though! My niece will eat a potato raw, but it is just way to starchy for me.
