I was never ashamed of wearing glasses, but when I was young and I would dress up to go to a party or other function like that I would not wear my glasses, even despite the fact that I couldn't see very well. I felt I looked more attractive without them, has anyone out there done the same? why or why not?

I had to wear glasses from the time I was about 11 and I got teased terribly in school. I don't know which was worse...going years without them b/c no one thought to check my eyes and I was always thought of as stupid b/c I couldn't do the work on the chalkboard or after I got them being teased b/c I had to wear them. It was really hard. These days they don't bother me all that much...I've gotten used to them. I've thought a few times about getting contacts but I doubt I'll bother with it. I wore glasses all the time when I was young, I don't remember being teased for wearing glasses, only if they were old fashioned then I was. As an adult I was never teased for wearing them, but I didn't wear them in my twenties if I was going out. Now at my age who cares if they think I am attractive or not

I don't know if I was ever ashamed, but as soon as I found out about contacts as a teenager I wanted them. Glasses are such a pain to upkeep. They fall off, break, sometimes they just don't go with the outfit. After wearing contacts for so long, I don't know if I could go back to wearing glasses. I can't wait until my son is a bit older so he can switch to contacts.

I remember a time when I would wish I had eyeglasses. I thought they were cool. Now that I have to wear them for reading, it isn't as cool. I have known people not to wear their lenses when they thought they looked better without them. My response was it didn't matter how good they looked without them, the needed to see where they were going.

Not necessarily ashamed, but stupid about them. Just before college I went to a different eye doctor, who said that my farsightedness was only a point or two off. I could do without them if I wanted. However, he did not mention the astigmatism. I spent a year or two going without glasses whenever I chose to, and I believe my visions suffered as a result.

I hear you, that is annoying when that happens so what I do is not wear them outside, and bring them in my purse and put them on when I get to wear I am going.

I have a good set of eyes, never had a problem on my eyesight but sometimes I wear glasses with no grade though. Black rimmed plain eyeglass. I tend to wear them if I don't put concealer on under my eye. I have under eye cirle problem and have to put conceale on it when i go out of the apartment but if I'm in a hurry, I just grab my glasses. Never feel awkward wearing it.

For me I got glasses in middle school cause I had a hard time reading the black board. I was not ashamed of them at all. I was proud of them at that time because I thought they looked great on me. Many of my friends had glasses and I kinda wanted to be like them. Plus I knew they were to help me with my lessons so that was reason enough for me to wear them.

I hate wearing my contacts, but I love my glasses. I think they make me look like a naughty librarian.

I suppose in elementary school I dreaded having to wear my glasses as I was shy and an easy target for all manner of taunting and jokes. My glasses just added to it.

I wear glasses because I am near-sighted. I have never ever felt ashamed of wearing glasses. Maybe it is because I do not wear my glasses all the time. I only wear my glasses when I am driving or I am sitting far away from text. For instance, I am not wearing my glasses right now. I do not wear my glasses, not because I am ashamed of wearing, but I do not wear glasses because I feel like I do not need them unless I need to see far away. -Feel Free to Disagree!

At certain times, I don't use my glasses. I also feel that I looked more attractive without it. But if I'm at work, I can't afford not to wear my glasses. I don't want to miss a detail at work. In company meetings and gatherings I'd wear my contacts. Well, i just realized that no matter how I looked as long as I have good intentions, I must be happy contented with it.

At first I dont want to wear eyeglasses, because you are being joked as getting old. On the other hand some are saying your smarter and look like a genius when wearing eye glasses. But whether I like it or not I have no choice. I cant read without my eyglasses.

I've never had to wear glasses in my life until I reached my mid-forties. And I was a little embarrassed to wear them in public. But if I want to be able to read things I better get used to wearing them. I feel so much better with them on anyhow. Now I think they make me look smart. LOL.

No, why should I be ashamed of wearing glasses? I think it is really cool. I first know I needed to wear glasses when I was about 10. There was a eyesight checkup in the school and I gave the news to my parents with trepidation. I still remember the scene. There was a huge angsana tree outside my school gate and my parents were waiting for me in the car parked just there. I hopped on in and told them I needed to wear glasses. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect. But my Mum laughed - the very last thing I expected. She said, "Wasn't that what you want all along? You said glasses are cool." (FYI: I was already an avid reader at that tender age.) So even now, I am still with my glasses and I have no plans to change to contact lenses. :)

I still hate wearing my glasses - I just don't like the way they look on me. I can't wear contacts, so I go around squinting (which is far more attractive - lol)instead of wearing my glasses.

Self conscious yes, ashamed to wear glasses no! Even though I always had wanted to wear glasses, I was still self conscious when I first started wearing them, I guess it was the fear of the unknown, but I soon realized that nobody cared I wore glasses and I was never self conscious after realizing this. It definitely helps adjusting to your life wearing glasses if you really want to wear glasses in the first place! I have always loved wearing glasses and have worn them with confidence and pride!
