Have you ever seen a cat "supervise" the cleaning of his litter box?

Just my luck today I'm charging my camera batteries because Bigguy has been a riot every time I've gone to his litter box to clean out his poops! I swear he's trying to supervise me or something. I can almost hear him tell me where there is more and where I should put more litter! His box is plenty big enough for him and I think I put the litter deep enough for him but the way he acted a couple of times today was too funny. He actually nudged my arm when I had the scooper in my hand. Well, I wanted him to be friendlier and I guess this is his start but have you ever seen anything like this? I'm going to have my camera handy tomorrow that's for sure because it was almost like he was trying to clean the box himself!

I used to have the same problem when I used clay litter and had only 4 cats. I did a complete dump and clean every few days. They watched and lined up to use it after it had been cleaned. So of course I needed to do it again. What little snots. You'd think they could at least wait until I had left the room so I wouldn't seem like their slave. Yes, I am their slave, but they don't need to throw it in my face like that.

LMAO I have never thought of it like that before. Both my cats have to watch me clean the litter if they aren't in the bathroom with me when I am doing it they scratch the door until I let them in lol

Well pets can be quite funny. I had a dog who did not like to walk into a puddle of water and he used to jump. I had another dog who was so filthy that jumped into each water muddle that we encountered in the road.

It has been a while since I have had my cat. But as I remember it was his territory. And yes he was there to supervise. He'd even comment with a well placed meow now and again.

Cute! Some cats have their own personalities. I love watching cats freak out, That sounds bad but i've never made them do it. I just laugh like a mad hatter when they do. If you can really hear your cats voice when you are cleaning out the tray, you have bigger problems on your hands!

It sounds like he accepts the fact that you are his owner and that he lives with you, free and clear. I know that the cats are interested when I change their litter trays. Your discussion is a pointed reminder that I need to get it done this morning. Hope you and the Bigguy have a great day.

Oh that is just too hilarious! Yes, I have a cat that does the exact same thing. LittleBit, my calico, has to be right there when my daughter scoops the box. It's like she is saying "you're not doing it right!" And when the litter boxes get changed? That is a riot and a half. Not only is LittleBit supervising the cleaning out of them, she has to play with every grain of fresh litter that goes IN to the boxes. It's almost like she is saying "MINE! All MINE!" I so wish I had a video camera at those times.

This made me giggle a little bit because my cat does the same thing. It's like he's on "potty patrol". He watches the whole time I clean the box, then when I go to take the litter out he jumps in the box and uses it. It's like he's just waiting for me to get done so he can mess it up again, LOL!~D

Thats cute! My cat is so protective of her box.. She will go into the bathroom with you and stand in her box while you're in there so you will not use it. She checks whenever company visits to make sure they weren't in it as well. They're little people!

You know I have 4 cats.. they actually line up when the litter box is being cleaned, waiting to see who the first will be to go in the new box. They can argue over it sometimes.. but the dominant one always wins.. and sadly its not my fat Nemo kitty. For being the biggest (25 pounds), he is the biggest sissy.

well my girl sure does supervise me when i clean the litter box. the litter box is shared by my three cats. my two boys always pee at the entrance of the box. my girl finds it disgusting to step on their pee so she always tell me to change once the litter is wet. if i didn't clean it soon enough for her, she'll meow and meow until i follow her to the litter box. when i remove the cover, she'll go straight in and pee right in front of me. it's like telling me 'see! i've got to hold my bladder because you forgot to clean my litter box!'. if i clean it in time, she'll just stand around and wait until she feel that i've added enough litter before doing her business. that's how my 'supervisor' does her 'job'. cheers ;p

If Reggie Cat knows that I am going to clean out his box, he always stands right outside the bathroom door and watches me. Then as soon as I finish, he goes in there. Sometimes he goes to the bathroom, othertimes he just moves the litter around and makes it all comfortable for him again.
It's normal cat behavior.

That is too cute. My cat she won't supervise how I clean her litter box but she will sit there and watch me as I clean it out. Unless I clean it to her liking. But every time I grab my scooper she'll go and run to her litter box because she knows what I'm going to do and when I am finished cleaning her litter box she'll go and use it.

I can honestly say I've never seen a cat go to that extent of supervising the litter box cleaning. My cat Indy tends to sit quietly and wait until I'm finished and then emediately 'gets it dirty' again.

Awww that's cute!! Sounds like he's coming around a lot more and getting quite used to you now. That's awesome!! Give more time and he'll be a big ole teddy bear, just what you wanted. I'm so glad that you've got him because I know you'll be really good to him.

I know what you mean. I used to have this tiny little cat who was very fluffy. He was all about the litter box. He would go and do his business and then come and get me to clean it right away. I would clean it out while he stood there and watched me to make sure I got every single bit and then he would lay down in the litter box and go to sleep!
