Do you enjoy breathing? (Not really the topic)

Why is it that there are so many topics on here there are hundreds of threads asking "Do you like wearing jeans" and other silly things. Now I understand some people are on here solely for the check, but come one people, the better your posts the more money you make. I have been guilty of posting some pretty silly topics before, but sometimes it seems like most of the topics are simple questions, and not discussions at all. Any idea why this is?

I guess they see it as the more topics they post the more money they make. I got to agree though that those discussions can get pretty dry, and their not really worth the time and effort to respond to.

writing about random things is one thing, to me though it should be more then one simple question, it should encourage actual discussion, not simple yes or no answers.

Yes I enjoy breathing very much in fact, especially when I take long, deep breaths...No just kidding, but I think people do that because they want to start discussions, but they really have no idea what they want to talk about. So they just put simple questions so people will respond with simple answers.

Yes but short one line topics don't make that much money, why waste the time? And why do so many people answer them. It seems the more boneheadedly obvious the question the more responses one gets.

I have to admit that when I try posting deeper discussions they just seem to sit there without any responses. However, the silly inane ones get a lot of responses. I guess after posting serious questions without getting responses, people begin posting more of the yes or no questions just to get some points.

I don't respond to each and every post, but I do try to keep the discussion going. I must admit I rarely respond simply with "Thanks for participating" I don't see a point in doing so.

That's right and I guess I'm one of the idiots who actually thanks people for responding to my posts. Sometimes I don't get time to respond to each and every post so I at least try to take the time to let people know that I have read them all and thank them pffffffft.

I've seen this idiotic type of posting since I started here. I'm afraid the stupidest one I have ever seen is "do you like to eat?" (insert eye-rolling smiley here) To answer your question tho, I think these type of discussions get the heller response rate that they do because they require little (if any) thought to respond to them.

I think alot of them post silly things just to be posting something. I skip over the ones I cannot relate to or have a discussion about. I only respond to those who make a good discussion and who will reply with a response back to whatever I replied to them also in most cases.

I am guessing that they are people just trying to collect a paycheck. I don't tend to answer them.

I've seen a lot of those silly one-liners and repetitive posts here, I don't really waste my time responding to it since I'm very sure that it'll most likely be deleted for the lack of sense. Mylot considers them as a spam, which is definitely not allowed here and obviously a violation of the guidelines.. But there are also some that deserves a respond to it, since some need not to elaborate such just to deliver whatever they prefer to ask or share here. I believe that some posters believe that could reach their dollar goals by simply doing that, unfortunately, they won't get anything from it even a cent.

yes I have seen many topics like that. they also manage to get many responses. But i have never started such one liners. Few new comers may do so but have seen few very old members are also doing the same still. all their discussions are such one liners.

yes that's why I respond more then I make new topics as well. I don't see the point in starting a thousand threads that all ask silly one word answer questions instead of just looking for topics that interest me.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Myrrdin. It is people just trying to earn a check. They haven't spent enough time learning the system to understand that they will earn a better income (if you can call it that) by posting quailty discussions. We have all posted the occassional silly discussion, but "Do you like wearing jeans???".... come on people.

I think that not all people are really doing anything but using this like another form of TV? Chewing gum for the mind. It does work for some not to really talk about anything of a serious nature...but I really don't like people who answer in a rude manner as what is the purpose? I guess I state the obvious..but its late and I spend too much time on the computer and see the same same too..

Hmmm... is it merely a coincidence that you started this thread, only a few minutes after answering mine about oreo cookies? Huh?? :P I have some silly threads, I know. But I feel that I try to deepen them up somewhat, by asking more questions than just one. For example, I didn't just ask "Do you like oreo cookies?", but I asked what kind, and how do you eat them, and do you have any memories from eating them, etc. I feel as though I've branched out a tad more than most by adding those other thought patterns... assuming people actually answer them that way. lol. I also add discussions based on personal experiences, specifically on events that occur during that day or week in my life. I think it gives a more personal touch, because, well, it IS more personal that way. Alright... now that I've vented THAT out on the feeling that you were dissing me by starting this thread (hahha), I will answer your question.... I very much enjoy breathing. It's even better when I can do it through my nose and use both nostrils. Oh... and people like to boost up their post numbers.. .maybe they're having a race with someone to see who can reach a certain number of posts first? And so by answering short shallow questions, they can reach their target faster. Do you think that could be a possibility? :P

It was not dissing you, but actually several others I saw. I am not referring ones like that, but just one simple question. Yours, while silly and pointless still encouraged discussion.

I think sometimes people get a tad lazy and donot take the time to come up with topics that have real discussion value. as you said some are more like questions than real discussions.pays to take time to think out what you want to discuss and whether it would appeal to other people.

You are totally right. I have the same feeling about that and I usually can search so many similar topics here. At first I am interested in it, but now I have to be busy with my job and have no enough time to post or start a discussion. I have been calm for this.

Those questions get the most responses, which means more money. I does annoy me as I have quite a few discussions with no response because everybody is too busy replying to the discussions that are easy.

more responses don't necessarily equate to more money, as I understand the system it is quality posts that matter more then the number of posts. As such these people are sabotaging their own efforts.

True, but in the long run it still takes more effort to make money answering those questions and posting them then working on quality posts. So in the end by doing those you are sabotaging your own efforts.

Maybe it's not clear, what I mean is that it is easy for everyone to answer a question such as, what is your favourite meal? That will get a lot of responses and I would assume that the originator of the discussion would earn more for having a heavily responded discussion. This means that everyone will tend to answer/start these, rather than search/start a discussion on something less generic.
